No, I havent applied but I just wanted to say congrats to you!!! How difficult was it to get into their program? What I mean is are they gpa driven like the community colleges?

Oh so when do you start? I know you are excited!!!!!!:yeah:

Thank you!! First you take the TEAS,then you have to take Chemistry, College Algebra and Computers. Those are the only three classes they go by. I do not have any medical experience, however the admission reps say it is helpful but not a requirement. Then they choose 25 for days and nights and 5 alternates for each class. Hope that helps!!

I start May 27th!!!!!:D

Specializes in ambulatory surgical, ped private duty.

I'm in too!! MCI Newport News!! Yay for us!!

Hey Congratulations on getting in! I was so excited when I got that phone call! I'm at the Va Beach campus too. I'm in my fourth mod of the actual program. It gets pretty tough but I like it there. I'm sure I'll see you around eventually. lol :)

Thanks, do you mind if I PM you, I have a few questions.

Wow, does not seem too bad at all, I am sure some other VA Beach MCI students that will be in your class will come along maybe you can get a study buddy or group going. I bet it will be fast paced since I hear it is only a 15 month program.

Being done in 15 months really has me considering their program as well. I would like to know how expensive is their program, I may not be able to qualify for full tuition so I wonder if I could swing it by working part-time to help pay for my portion of tuition. If you do not mind and you dont have to be specific but what is APPROXIMATELY the tuition?

I am tired of waiting to get accepted into a community college program if you know what I mean.

Specializes in Wound Care.

Hello, all

I am in the RN program at MCI VaBeach. I started classes last Sept (07), our class started out with 30 and we have 23. We just finished up Concepts 2 and English Comp2. Next mod we will be in Psychiatric Nursing. Our graduation is around December 21st.

If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. I am the class representative, so any help I can give you, let me know.

you can reach me at: [email protected]

The program is about $34K and I hear it goes up every time they start a new class. My suggestion would be to do your financial aide at MCI before you sign up for their prereqs so if you can't afford it, then you don't owe them money for the classes you have already taken there.

I heard that the tuition went up as well. I am not sure as to how much. But I agree with the statement mom78 posted. Check with financial aide before committing to see if you qualify, first. The folks in financial aide will be able to help answer your questions about scholarships, grants, government aide, and such...

Wow, $34k I have never applied for financial aid and I am not working so I am sure I would qualify for pell and the works but looks like I would still have to come out of pocket. What are you ladies doing to cover tuition or does financial aid cover everything?

Oh a friend told me they have evening RN program and that is 15months too. Do you know if that is true?

They do have and evening class, the hours from what they told me in admissions are Mon-Fri 5-1030 and Saturdays from 8-4 and 12 hour shift on Sat. and Sun. once you get into clinicals it is 12 hour shift on Sat and Sun. That is just what I have been told, the hours may vary.

As for financial aide, well I was able to get federal loans but I did not qualify for ANY grants and I have not worked in years, and my husband was deployed most of the tax year, so our taxable income was extremely low. You can get a private loan, or pay for the rest out of pocket.
