I am a Navy veteran. I have 10 years of service active duty. Does anybody have contact information for questions I have regarding getting into government employment and how my military time could be applied towards retirement?

Where in the government are you looking to work? USAjobs.gov is the website for current government openings. You can buy back your time once you get hired. HR will have all the documents needed to do that.

I just started looking. I am an OR RN. I was hoping to find out if it was going to be worth giving up travel nursing for a bit to get the retirement, but if I will need another 20 years I'll just stay put.

Probably not. You can technically retire after you have been there 5 years. I guess it depends what you want more: making money doing traveling or to have a good retirement.

I want it all! ?
Did you do the FERS buy back? It's a little difficult to navigate the system from the outside. I have been looking on the different websites and got general information, but who can I contact to get specific questions answered if I am not already in the federal system?

It will be difficult to match the benefits of the Federal Government. Not only can you buy back your AD time it will be applied to your seniority. I bought back my time and have a reserve retirement so able to double dip on. With 10 years of active duty you will start out with 6 hours of leave every pay period unless you work for the VA were it’s 8 hours of leave per pay period. You will also get 4 hours of sick leave per pay no matter what agency you work for.
When you apply for a federal job make sure your resume covers the key words in the announcement.
