Very Scared!!!!!

It can be scary interviewing for the OR or anywhere..Just be yourself and try not to be nervous..Good eye contact and posture..I remember getting asked if I could use tools...5 words to describe myself..Just remember that as with any other job teamwork is very important...That is something they may mention or something you will tell them that is important in your job..GOOD LUCK!! I hope that this helped a little..Its been a while since my interview but maybe some that interviewed recently can help you better..GOOD LUCK!!!

Just be yourself! :) I was so nervous for mine... turned out they were super laid back and really nice! They were cracking jokes and I was giving it right back to them after awhile! :) They asked me certain questions as far as if I was good with power tools, how I feel about specific surgeons " yes they named names".. heh um.. I told them that teamwork is the utmost importance to me, and just because your floor is separated by "teams" you dont just not answer call lights because its not your team.. etc... I told them I like working in a smaller setting, and that the OR is always what I wanted to do!

All in all, just be yourself. They are not going to expect you to know a whole heck of a lot, thats what orientation is for! They are more interested in you as a person and how you will fit in with the crew, etc... :)

I was asked if I had leadership/management in school (I said yes) and what was my weakest area when I did that (I said I was too detailed and that took up a lot of my time at the beginning, but I learned how to streamline that). They asked me why OR nursing and not floor nursing (I said I like having a 1 to 1 ratio and that I don't think patients get proper care when the RN is spread so thin on the floor). I don't remember what else. I start my program next month.

It sounds like you are enthusiastic about being in the OR and that will count for a lot.

Oh yes it is very scary. I wasn't prepared for mine because the nurse recruiter set up an interview with the OR 15 minutes after she interviewed me!!! I didn't expect that at all. I was a nervous wreck because there were 3 people in the interview room, each of them throwing a question at me. I must of been blessed that day because words flew out of my mouth like i was a pro. I got a phone call 2 hours later to offer me the position.

Some of the questions they asked me were:

Tell us about yourself.

What made you decide to become a nurse?

Why are you interested in the OR?

List some good/bad qualities about yourself.

How would you handle conflict with another co-worker?

Can you handle working with strong personalities?

Are you able to adapt to change? For example working with different surgeons who want things done a specific way when you're used to doing it another way.

How do you handle stress?

Are you flexible? OR nurses are on call alot.

Are you good at troubleshooting/ problem-solving? Because sometimes machines and equipment malfunction.
