Very frustrated! Jacksonville Area

U.S.A. Florida

Hello All!!! I just really need some advice... maybe someone will have an idea I haven't thought of yet?!

I graduated in Dec. and passed boards... I have been diligently looking for a job - anything - for a good 6 months now and I have not had ONE interview, callback - NOTHING! I assumed that it was because I was a GN but now that I am an RN, I am still not hearing ANYTHING... I get several computer-generated rejection letters but that is about it. I have been calling the places and tryng to get through to the HR/Nurse Managers but that is also very difficult to do... I have applied outside of the Jax area... I have applied to unconventional places... I have several "connections" in the area and they can't even help right now...

I know the Jacksonville area is very tough for new nurses right now but I am very nervous that if I don't get a job soon, the 550(+) new grads coming out this month in Jacksonville is going to make it nearly impossible...

Any advice anyone has would be SOO helpful!! Thank you

Are you talking about ANCC certification? You have to have a certain number of practice years (usually equivalen to 2 full time years) before you can sit for certification exams through ANCC. You can collect CEUs though, no need to be practicing for those and they may help.

I don't really know - I see job postings all the time for internships for like the NICU and they say "new grads required to have NRP certification within 6 months of hire" and other postings that require you to have them before you hire... Not just NICU though - most of the specialty areas... So, I assumed it was something you could get like ACLS if you paid for it and took the class on your own.

I don't know - just trying to think outside the box and make myself more marketable.... I am frustrated to say the least.

NRP is just neonatal resuscitation, like CPR for newborns, but a little more involved. Yes, you can just pay for that one. If you are interested in NICU, newborn nursery, or L&D/Postpartum, NRP is a good one to have.

Sighs...I wish I had the funds to take the ACLS. Nursing college has depleted my funds and I need a job to get these certification. I am so tired of sending out applications. It makes me so angry know that I have spent so much money in school and cannot get a job.

I work for Integrity home health and got hired with no experience, I have worked there over a year, you gotta eat! But really I actually like it, the hours are flexible and its a good way to get some experience, generally the job is pretty easy, its 1/1 care. I do pediatric shift work. the pay is not great (19/hr) but better than fast food, so hey, and they are ALWAYS hiring
