Verbal part of the nln exam

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I was wondernig if anyone would be able to help me with some tips of how to prepare, pass and improve my score on the verbal part of NLN exam. I took the test in February and I did good in math and science (scored in high 80's), but I did not pass the verbal part of the exam . . .

I took all my prerequsites and general classes required for the nursing program, and I have outstanding grades, but I can not get into the nursing program without passing/scoring high enough at the NLN exam and the part that I have a problem with is VERBAL.

Please HELP !!!

THANK YOU

never had that exam. Tell more about it.

What are you having trouble with? Vocabulary? Comprehension?

I would suggest getting a test prep book if you don't already have one. Speaking with my classmates who are taking it soon, those who are not English as their first language are very concerned about the verbal section. I looked at the prep books they are using and the questions are similar format to what I saw on the actual test. Learning the root, pre- and suffix of words will go a long way to helping make an educated guess when you don't know what a word means.

I walked in and passed it without ever knowing what would be on the NLN. I originally wasn't going to apply to any programs requiring it so I just took it last minute when I decided to apply to another program. I just used my knowledge of word roots, pre- and suffixes as well as looking at the context where the words would be used.

Good luck.

I think that I have a problem with both and English is my second language. Some of those words I have no idea what they mean and even knowing roots, prefixes and suffixes did not seem to help. Once your time is limited reading and comprehension is also chalanging, especially since I am usually stuck between 2 answers. I do have a study guide and I looked at many other ones and once you are familiar with passage or you already went over those questions, you know the answers.

Somehow, I need to be able to practice reading and comprehension, as well as improve my vocabulary. I was wondering if there are some websites or books that would actualy help with this.

Thanks
