Planting potatoes  today and tomorrow will transplant the rest of the tomotos, as well as the beans, pumpkins, and other assorted squash. Laying beets, radishes and carrots. finaly rubarb, artichokes, cukes and bitter melon and that should be it for this planting season.

Seems like a lot of work but it's how I destress and life at the psych hospital has been particularly stressful this week.

We are having triple digit heat in my corner of California. I lost a lot of the more fragile plants like lettuce and cucumbers but I am getting Colossal tomatoes. Take a look at this monster.

Today I am stretching my culinary muscles and making pickles. So far I am putting up Cuke, Okra, Red Cabbage and avocados! I also want to do a green tomato and red onion chutney.

So living in zone 9 I still have time for a Fall crop. Went up to Petaluma CA this past weekend for my nephews wedding and what to my surprise they have a seed bank with hundreds of seeds for open polinated heirloom flowers and vegeables. I was like a kid in a candy store. I got Asters Cour Di Bue cabbage, Kalibos red cabbage, 1500 year old  cave beans, Green Globe artichokes, Navone Rutabega, Astronomy Domine Sweet Corn, Bull's blood beets, Marketmore 76 Cucumber and Black Speck Kohlrabi. also herb seds for 15 culinary and medicinal herbs. That should keep my stress levels under control!
