VCU ABSN Summer 2014 Hopefuls!

U.S.A. Virginia

Hey everyone!

I'm semi new to this site and was curious if there is anyone else out there in the application process for VCU's accelerated BSN program to start in May 2014. I've started my application, but haven't turned it in, yet. This is the only program I want to go to! I don't know if I can wait until the end of January to get a decision!!!!

I finished my degree in Biology in May 2011 and I've been working in NOVA at a fast paced medical office ever since. Also, I've taken all of my pre-reqs except for A&P I and II (starting A&P I in a few weeks), but just a bit concerned about my grades/GPA from undergrad. I meet all of the requirements thus far, but not sure if it will be enough. Anyone else having similar concerns?

Also, would love to hear from any current VCU ABSN students - what were your stats like when applying, how do you like the program, etc.

Yea... I was going to retake it (I completely sucked at standardized tests in high school), but I just would not be prepared at all, so I'm just hoping they look at the "big picture" and not base too much off of the SAT scores. I know that when I went to the information session I asked privately about my scores and she advised me that there have been students around that score that are currently in the program. The anticipation is just killing me though! I don't think I can stand waiting until January...

I still suck at standardized testing! I know I wouldn't do as good on my SATs if I retook them now, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed with the old scores.

And the wait until January is going to be pure torture. It's such a LONG waiting period!

Hello all,

I just finished my applications as well! Just waiting on transcripts and act scores to be received. I'm going to an info session on Friday so if anyone has ?s post them and I'll see if I can't get an answer.

A little about myself. I graduated in 2012 from UVA with a BS in Biochemistry, undergrad GPA mid 3s, and my ACT composite score was 29. LORs should be pretty good but, I think my biggest weakness is a lack of volunteer/medical work, which with taking prereqs and working I haven't had the time to do for this cycle. I'll have all my prereqs finished this semester(taking AP2, Micro, and Stat... cannot wait for the semester to finish!).

Anyway, good luck to us and I hope to meet some of y'all this summer!!!

Good luck to everyone!

I went to an info session back in August or September, I can't remember now... But the info session is really just how to apply to the program. I went for the tour beforehand as well, and we really just walked down the hall where all the classrooms will be. Hopefully you get to see a little bit more if you do the tour as well!

Hi Everyone!

I'm currently working on my application for VCU! These personal statements are the worst! I'm applying to VCU, as well as UVA. I am praying to get into one of these programs. Just to share a bit about myself, I'm a 2013 grad of UMW with a BA in International Affairs. This summer I took both sections of A&P, as well as Microbiology and this fall I'm finishing up with developmental psych. Currently I work as a CNA in the Recovery Room at my local hospital.

Great to "meet" you all and hopefully I will have everything submitted in the next few days!

Hi all!

So everything is in for me!! I just wish we could know before January... it's going to be a nerve racking couple of months! Good luck everyone, we're in the last stretch of deadlines for applications!

Hello! Glad to see a discussion board for VCU 2014 hopefuls!! So I've taken the GRE for some other programs I'm applying to - from what I understand that will suffice instead of SAT scores, correct?

That's my understanding and what I've sent to the school.

From what I understand, they will take the gre scores and use those to estimate what the sat/act score would be as if you had just taken one. Another thing that surprised me and several other people in the info session was the fact that graduate school grades are ignored for the GPA calculations. Only classes from you undergrad degree and pre-reqs are calculated . The addcom is only interested in undergrad related metrics, not in graduate.

I can't believe the application due date has passed! It's so nerve wracking because we have to wait for a couple more months and I found out that I got into 's program a few days ago. :

I can't believe the deadline has passed!!! I hope everyone got their applications finished on time! I got a confirmation e-mail from VCU SON and was kind of sad to see that their decision date (according to the e-mail) is early February now. January is long enough... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will let us know early.

@Lexi - You still have half a semester to bring that grade up. You can definitely do it! I understand the pressures to keep a good grade for those prereqs... I'm in A&P I this semester, II next semester. It would suck to get accepted to the program and then get un-accepted because of a prereq grade. Buttttttt, that's not going to happen for us!

@Allie- When did you get a confirmation e-mail? :S I haven't gotten one but all of my supplementary materials were turned in.
