Has anyone utilized VANEEP? I am currently doing my pre-reqs for entering the RN program in the spring. It's really strange @ the VA that I work at. There dosen't seem to be many people taking advantage of such an awesome program! I'm just praying that the funding holds out long enough for me to get enrolled!

congratulations !! DebolynnO

I'm also from VISN 10 and my application was submitted 7/10 with me starting school on 8/24. My application was initially rejected due to issues with transcripts for my transfer credits. Luckily I was able to work with my education dept & submit additional documentation and I received my acceptance 8/21. Having experienced both the lows and highs the only advice I'd give anyone applying for vaneep is make sure you have all of your paperwork completed and then stay on your education dept to get their side done -- and don't accept a rejection until you're sure there's nothing else that can be done.

Heard a rumor here at VISN 23 that Vaneep funding program is going to be to be ending.Have not heard from my education coordinator if this is true. Or if it affects the contract I have signed and start 8/25/2009.I am very thankful to finally be moving forward with my nursing career!:specs:

I am in VISN 6. I completed my BSN in May 09 and passed boards first time with 75 questions. I think it is a great program. Just make sure that you stay on top of your education department. I did have to go and turn in grades as well as make sure the payments to the University were made on time. It is a good program. Do not be dissapointed after graduation that you are considered a new grad despite any experience. (LPN for 9 years). Congrats on all who get this opportunity.

Annfaith,

Im not sure how your VISN is but you are not considered a new grad after getting your RN. A nurse is a nurse and they count your experiecne. They take your time as a LPN and cut it in half. So you should be getting paid as a RN with 4 1/2 years experience. At least this is applied in our VISN. I just had a friend finish the VANEEP and she was a LPN for 6 years prior so came in with 3 years. Its worth looking into. Good luck. :)

I know you posted awhile ago to this regarding the VANEEP program but I am also at VISN 10 and wonder if you know if they still offer this. I am an LPN in school now doing prerequisites for RN. Thanks.

I am applying with a friend that I work with for this program. I hope we get funding. I heard that funding will run out if you apply late in the fiscal year. So I cross my fingers and hope that the LPN program that I want to use will be accepted by the VA.

I love the VA. I would not have a problem staying for 10 at least.

How are you fellow grads liking the VANEEP now?

Thanks,

Jeanie

I am glad to find this forum. I worked at the VA as an agency NA. I just got hired on, but have been working there for a year. Will this year apply to the one year needed to apply for VANEEP? Also, I have been in a nursing program before, but wasn't able to finish at the time. I have to repeat a class or two, and now redo my science classes as they have expired most program requirements for being less than 7 years old. I did read on here that books and tuition top out at $22,000. I am assuming that is for the year; or is it for the 24 months? I am not sure what year that comment was posted, so I will have to check that, too. I report to my new floor on Wednesday (in 5 days). I will log on the intranet and see what I can find out about where to go to get the information on the program. Maybe I can print it off the computer. Thanks for any comments you can make on the VANEEP program!

In Fiscal year 2010 the maximum amount was 37,494.80 I am in VISN 12 and starting in FY 2011 they would no longer pay for an ADN program , they would only pay for BSN. Also keep your GPA up because that is also a determining factor for selection fin the VANEEP.

The year that you worked as agency will not count towards the year that is needed before applying for VANEEP because you were not a federal employee. I hope this helps.
