Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency Program

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey everyone! I have a quick question. I am filling out the application for the Winter 2011 program, and I was just wondering are we supposed to type up the application packet or is it ok if we just hand write on it? I can't seem to find a way to type on it.

Thanks!

It's best to type the application. It's more professional and some people's handwriting can be pretty horrible.

Hey everyone I had a question for those who were admitted already did you guys have a lot of volunteering experience, I don't have any and I want to know if its a great influence or not, Thanks!!:nurse:

I am with you BAMBAM- no way to type on it, it is a PDF file. I am also applying for the Winter 2010 track - Adult Medicine.....very time consuming application but also very exciting! NEWRN, I do not have any current volunteer experience either; all my volunteer work was over a year ago....but spent all my time in nursing school studying and working (gotta pay for school somehow); maybe that will help! Hopeful to hear feedback from any previously accepted applicants on any tips/advice/not to dos for the application process!

Good! I'm glad I wasn't just missing something...I didn't think there was anyway to type on it! I also don't have any recent volunteer experience...I wouldn't think that many people would with how time consuming nursing school is! I would love to hear advice from others in the program about the application process as well!!

Hey everyone :)

I just started nursing school so I still have 18 months before I can apply for the residency program but do you all have any tips on what they look for to make your application as strong as possible?

I'm from S. FL, but I've heard from a few friends that live outside Nashville, Vanderbilt is one of the best places to get your feet wet. For the most part do they accept a good amount of their applicants to the program?

Are there any other hospitals in the area you'd recommend applying to as back ups? I've heard good things about Baptist but I'm not sure if it's them or Centennial who typically likes to higher more experienced R.N.s?

Thanks!!

I'm also applying for Winter 2011. I don't have any volunteer experience either and I was kind of worried about it too, so it's good to hear that some others don't! And I agree that there is no way to type on it because I wondered about that too. But I don't see any way you could type it.

CF08, there is a section for recent volunteer experience in hospital or clinical settings so if you could get any experience in that area, I would assume it would help some! I would also stay in touch with your clinical instructors so that you can use them to get really good Letters of Recommendation.

My application is in!!!! Now the hard part....waiting.............:yeah:

I sent In my application yesterday, I spoke to someone who informed me that the interview will start in October and will end in November 1. We are going to recieve and e-mail saying that they have receive the package.

Yes. And I believe we should receive an email in the last week of September saying if we got an interview or not. I hope these next couple of weeks go by fast!!

Good luck everyone. It's worth it...trust me. I was in the Summer 2010 critical care group.

Hi BlakeyRN It is great to hear good things about the program I am currently in Florida so if i am selected I hope is worth the move, I was just wondering what your GPA is, I don't know if its a big disqualifier or not, and also if you had any volunteering experience. you can PM me if you fill more comfortable, Thanks!
