Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency Program

Published

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a BSN. My references were both the highest scores...my teachers let me see them before they sealed them! I will graduate this may...

If you have a BSN, experience, and great references then i honestly dont know why you wouldnt have gotten an interview. My guess is that they must have had a LOT of great candidates and just had to narrow it down somehow. the only thing i would suggest is trying to apply again for the winter cohort.

Hello everyone. I have been reading this thread for almost a year - ever since I started thinking about applying to Vandy when I graduated. Now I'm in my final semester and am interviewing with Vanderbilt in two weeks for the adult track. I am starting to get really nervous. Can anyone who has interviewed already give me the general vibe? Don't tell me what they asked, but: was the atmosphere friendly or tense? Were the interviewers super serious? I'm coming from Texas and have never been to Nashville. I think I'm just freaking out and I am going to prepare for the interview, but I wish someone could tell me it was okay. I also think the job market is making my anxiety skyrocket because I feel like if I don't get the job at Vanderbilt, I don't know that I'll get a job immediately following graduation at all.

Thank you!

Try to relax. I know it isn't easy, but they do try to help you with that as well. It is a panel interview and they encourage you to take your time and think about your answers. Show you care that it's Vandy by doing some research on the hospital. GPA gets you in the door for an interview, but there are alot more interviewing than can fit in the program. Sell yourself.

for those of you who didn't get selected for an interview, don't feel bad. There were 800 + applicants for this cohort.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any input on the interview questions asked - specific questions or what to be prepared for? If you do please feel free to send me a private message. I'm excited about my interview!

Hi girls,

How have your interviews been going so far? Did any of you take the nano self guided tour? What other programs are you looking at? I was selected for a pediatric interview and am very interested in the questions they asked. I heard a lot of it is based on our clinical experience. Hope everyone's interviews went well. We will see soon enough when interviews are done (march 23), right?

I just had my interview. The people on the panel were very very nice. Good experience.

Miamigrad,

What school are you at right now? Did you interview yet? I just interviewed for the peds track as well. It was kinda scary, but they were all so friendly.

Vanderbilt was such a nice place to visit! Did everyone else enjoy their time there? Lots of people coming from other states....my drive was 10 hours!

Where from Illinois are you from? I used to live in Chicago. I now live in Florida. I also interviewed for the Peds track. I now live in Florida and go to school here. I drove from here. It took 10 hours. How about you?

i just had my interview. the people on the panel were very very nice. i will say, some of the questions are difficult to answer. they were for me at least. i had some trouble recalling specific examples of certain scenarios they wanted to hear about. i wonder if other people had the same problem. they ask some questions about you personally (why vanderbilt, etc.) then they ask specific clinical questions and want specific examples from your clinical experiences.

hi joyfuljoy3,

i was in the adult medicine track and had the same problem. i had 2-3 scenarios i had prepared for but i seem to remember they asked for 6 or 7 specific scenarios. i wonder if they changed their question format from the previous cohort. they were very polite though and very nice. time will tell on the outcome! good luck to all!

I also had my interview for the adult track the other day and encountered the same senario questions that y'all are talking about. I feel as if I was able to provide an answer to each of them and I left the interview smiling and excited, however as I sit and analyze my answers (which is a dangerous thing to do btw) I become more unsure of how it went. I just really don't know! But yah, they were super friendly and wonderful and beign there made me want this even more! Idk...we shall see what happens!!!
