Vanderbilt University Master of Science in Nursing (MS) PreSpecialty Entry - Spring 2026

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying to Vanderbilt's Master of Science in Nursing (MS) PreSpecialty Entry for Spring 2026 (non-nursing BS holders).

I submitted my application last week before the July 15 deadline. I'm applying for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) track, but I'd love to hear from others pursuing different specialties too.

A few questions to get us started:

  • When did you apply, and for which specialty?
  • Have you received any updates or confirmation emails since submitting?
  • If you've been accepted already, what was the timeline like?

Looking forward to learning from and supporting each other through this process. GOOD LUCK!

Hey everyone, new member here.

I applied (late) to the fall 2025 MSN PreSpecialty cohort. I accepted an offer to be placed on the waiting list. I received a follow-up email a few weeks ago (about 5 months after accepting the waitlist spot) letting me know they were closing the waitlist for Fall 2025 cohort, but offered admission for the Spring 2026 MN cohort, which I accepted.

Congratulations!! Hope to be joining you as an accepted Spring 2026 MN student. Only 3-4 weeks till we start hearing back!

Congrats! I'm a newer applicant but hoping to hear something soon! What was your Bachelor's degree in?

The anticipation is killing me! What was your Bachelor's degree in? Hoping to hear something sooner rather than later. I'm a Nashville native and would love to NOT have to move for a Masters program LOL.

I got a BA in Psychology! What about you?

I am right there with you. I can't wait any longer 😭😭

Ugh... I called them today and they said they are sending out an email today or tomorrow to let everyone know decisions are taking longer than expected and they do not know when they will send out decisions....

Are you serious? That's so disappointing. I guess I'm a little more anxious than usual because Spring 2026 is soooo close. I have other applications I need to make a decision on but was REALLY hoping for Vandy to come through. If this was for fall 2026, I'd be a lot less concerned but January feels like it's next week LOL. Also, I have to start school in Spring or Summer 2026 due to changes with the BBB legislation that go into effect in June. This is quite literally my only shot with Vandy and it's stressing me out!

My bachelors was in psych. 3.87 cGPA & no healthcare / nursing experience. My end goal is to become a dual certified FNP/PMHNP.

Oh my gosh same! 3.81, psych, no health care or nursing but I do work as a detox counselor in SUD. I want to start with PMHNP and potentially eventually go into FNP. I hope we both get in :,)

Same! Have you thought about which order you want to do it? I love psych but have heard about NPs having such a hard time finding a job as a new grab. I've been on the fence about which cert I want first.

BTW, did you get an email today about a delayed decision? I didn't and was hoping that means they are back on track for decisions LOL.

I am definitely doing PMHNP first. I have spoken to so many of them in my state (California) and there is such high demand! I spoke specifically with a few Vanderbilt Alumni who got jobs right away.

Yes I did get the email 😞 here it is
