Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Accepted Students Fall 2016

Nursing Students NP Students

Hi everyone! I thought I would start a topic board for students accepted to Vanderbilt for this fall in the Pre-Specialty program. Has anyone talked to any previous students in the past about housing? Looking forward to meeting you all!

Here's the link to the Facebook group for VUSN Pre-Specialty (Fall 2016 start):

I know a few people asked in the other group, but I talked to financial aid today about the scholarships. The amount you were awarded is matched for year two also. You could possibly even get more depending on your academic standing. So, if you were awarded $11,000, you will get another $11,000 the second year. Awesome!

Futuremidwife1991, I was also wondering about this; thanks for checking! That is great news!

I'm pre-speciality PMHNP! Is anyone planning on attending the open house in March? I only live a few hours away so I'm planning on attending and using that weekend to browse housing options. Hope to meet some of you there!

We have a Facebook page started(https://www.facebook.com/groups/1675254629427096/) and I know many people have replied on there that they'll be at the Open House. I'll personally be doing the exact same thing - going to the open house and then probably looking around at housing options on Sunday.

Does anyone know anything about the full tuition scholarships? I'm looking at VUSN (pre-specialty) and it would be nice to know how many people are considered for those/how many receive one. I understood the information online as only 1 PRE-SPECIALTY student gets a full scholarship (the others looked like they were for 2nd year students or Direct Entry). Any information would be great! :)

From a mass e-mail this morning:

"Once again School of Nursing has been named among the "Best Graduate Schools" in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

We are delighted to report that the School of Nursing Doctorate of Nursing Practice Program is ranked No. 10 for the 2017 year. This is the first time that US News and World Report ranked DNP programs. The MSN program continues to be among the top Schools of Nursing. For the 2017 ranking, the MSN program was ranked No. 13, tied with the University of Pittsburgh.

To determine scores, U.S. News & World Report uses a ranking methodology for Schools of Nursing, which arrives at a weighted average across eight indicators. Being ranked #10 and #13 for the DNP and MSN program is particularly noteworthy as there are over 200 DNP programs and over 500 MSN programs in the country.

The individual nursing specialties of the MSN program received the following ranking:

Nurse-Midwifery specialty, No. 1

Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 3

Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 3

Nursing Informatics specialty, No. 4

Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 4

Family Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 5

Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 6

We are truly proud of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing's outstanding reputation and is reflective the excellence in academics, research, practice, and informatics that are core components of our school.

Thanks to all, faculty, staff, students, and alumni- you are what makes VUSN great!"
