Vaccinations

Published

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, I'm wondering if someone could offer me some advice. I have completed all the prerequisites for Nursing school and was ready to get my vaccinations and send out the application.

I noticed, admittedly my fault - that the HEP B vaccine is a seven month schedule. I realize there is a rapid schedule, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a clinic that will do this.

I live in Winnipeg, MB Canada and if I go the seven months, I will miss the next intake which is in 2017. Can anyone offer any advice to maybe expedite this requirement? My school requires that the vaccinations are all done before you submit your application, or it will be cancelled.

Has anyone else had issues with this? if so, how did you handle it?

Thank you!

I would speak with admissions and clarify. My program allows you to be enrolled if you have started the Hep B series, and you have to make sure ti get the rest of the shots throughout the program.

Specializes in LTC and Pediatrics.

This is what I was going to say too.

Thanks guys, I have spoken with the enrolment advisor and unfortunately they have to be completed :(

If that's the admission requirement, then I don't know what to tell you. The admission criteria is determined at the discretion of your program.

I was wondering more so if there were any suggestions how to obtain the HEB B on a rapid schedule. Is this the same vaccine just all within 28 days rather than seven months? If so, why are there different frequency schedules; wouldn't it make more sense if they were all on a 28 day schehdule?

The best place to get the answers to your questions is at your public health office.

You can also check with a travel vaccine clinic, they will know how to expedite the vaccine schedule. Travel clinics usually charge a fee for service whereas public health is free.

Hi dishes,

I did just that this morning and they said they do not accept students. They did however direct me to a walk in clinic that can help me. Since I can drop in anytime, the rapid schedule for Twinrix is possible! Thank you for taking the time to help steer me in the right direction!
