VA RNII to RNIII PROFICIENCY HELP

Specialties Government

Published

Hello. I have been at the VA for 1 year and am currently writing my 1st proficiency for RN3. I know the board is looking for “completed, measurable” projects, but I was wondering if I even stood a chance. Since working, I’ve created a standard operating procedure(SOP) for a new drug treatment in our clinic(could be used in other clinics as well), formatted an electronic documentation template for nurses to chart med administration on the drug, conducted multiple in services & training sessions In preparation for the new drug etc. I’ve collaborated with so many Drs, pharmacists, committees and both the SOP and charting template has received approval from the clinical practice committee and informatics committee. I anticipate administering the new drug within the next couple of weeks. My concern is, will this be enough for the NPSB or will the program have to have actually be actively in process for some time before I get any credit????? Any information or insight would be greatly appreciated. Im nearly done writing & am supposed to submit my proficiency next week. Please help.

I’m not an expert in this topic as I just onboarded and didn’t score as high as I would have liked. After reading tons of blogs and such the best tip I have found is to explain the situation, your role, measurable outcome (specific) and to cite your outcome sources. Also be sure explain it from an expert/leader role for nurse 3. Report back on how it goes. I’m going to be sinking myself into all the things this next year in order to write for my RN3 at my 1yr eval.
