VA Proficiency Nurse II to III help

Published

Hello, I am working on my VA proficiency yet again trying to get a promotion to a nurse III. It has been a very frustrating process and last time I appealed all the way to VACO without any luck.

Is there anyone willing to share their proficiency for when they got promoted from a nurse II to a nurse III?

Email: [email protected]

Thanks in advance,

Sincerely

Arthur Harrelson, RN MSN-BC

Hi,

I'm in the same situation and currently appealing my denial to Nurse III. I would also appreciate anyone willing to share their proficiency for when they got promoted to Nurse II to Nurse III.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I'm only a nursing assistant so this is anectodal, but I hope it helps:

I work in inpatient psych and an RN who is a close friend of mine developed a program for opioid addiction as part of her masters program. Unfortunately I don't know the full details as it only just launched and I've been on leave for VANEEP for two months. I know that for a nurse III you typically need at least an MSN (she earned in May) and you need to develop a program that benefits your floor. The only other way to really secure it is to earn an MSN/ DNP and work as an NP or some type of managerial position.

Unfortunately, part of this program implementation seems to be playing the politics game and getting your superiors on board, so that's a hurdle for some.

I am also in the appeal process for promotion to Nurse III. I would appreciate any help that could be given as this is now my fourth denial and appeal

I was denied in collaboration, appealed and was granted. We have Promote committee who help a lot with this stuff. So, one of the members gave me a feedback.

" *Uses group process to identify, analyze and resolve care problems.

*Educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor".

I asked to clarify (we skyped, so here is the communication thread):

Me: For collaboration "Uses group process to identify, analyze and resolve care problems " Does it mean that I work in the group? Should I write that me as a SPHM Unit Peer leader collaborated with my fellow SPHM members and designed this project and delivered this to the PT team?

Her: If you can write something like as a consultant or as an expert or as a lead? initiate?

Me: Unit Peer Leader is not enough?

Her: I think it is... and write it as the unit peer leader.

I'm not sure I can share my writing here in open chat.

Thank you! Yeah I’m not either. I have a list of “things” I feel I’ve done maybe cover but suck at writing, & not sure I have the “data” specific to measure it.....

my email if willing to chat, help!

Thank you for sharing Lana_K. I am also trying to write for Nurse 2 and have been denied a couple of times already, although have several years of experience and a BSN.

I am not that great at writing and unfortunately have had no success getting help within my unit.

if anyone is willing to share some examples and pointers, that would be greatly appreciated!
