VA Nursing, How Long Until You Recieved and Interview Call?

Published

I finally jumped in and applied to join the world of VA Nursing. I applied to the Va Lexington for a job that had multiple vacancies in Telemetry, ICU and Med Surg. The position closed on Friday 02/28 at midnight. I didn't figure they would even look at application packages yesterday, as we had a very bad winter storm in Kentucky that shut down schools and most offices throughout central and eastern Kentucky, including the Lexington area. The job posting did state that interviews would be conducted within 10 days of the closing date, so I'm pretty much on pins and needles, hoping I get a call.

So, for those of you that went through the drill, how long did it take from closing date until your phone call requesting an interview? And, if they're not interested, do you at least get a notification through your profile at the USAJobs site? Finally, I was able to claim and prove five points on veterans preference for serving on active duty for four years during and following 9/11.

My call was about 3 wks after the position closed. Interview was a week later. I started six months later. The VA is not great about notifying you if you are not being considered.

I applied for two other positions around the same time. I was interviewed for one and came in second. I did some calling around to find that out but never received notification from anyone. I never heard anything about the third position until about 5 months later when I got some unclear email that sounded like they had decided to fill the job internally.

The position I applied for ended 03/25/14, I got a call on Friday 04/04/14 to call them to set up an interview. I called today 04/07/14 and the interview is for tomorrow.

I have my interview today. There was a 4 person panel and they all had PBI questions, 10 in total. I feel like I did really good because of all of what I learned here. Fingers crossed. I am up against 4 others.

The VA called yesterday, they want second interview with the Admin DRs. next week, they narrowed it down to 3 interviewees now. Fingers crossed!
