VA Nurses (Detroit/ Ann Arbor)

Published

Hello All,

I wanted to know are there any nurses on this site that currently work for the VA. What is the application process like? Are they currently hiring GNs? Anyone know if they hire for part- time.

Thanks in advance:)

I was looking at the VA initially out of nursing school and was informed they don't accept GN's. Once you pass your boards, you look for openings there and apply at http://www.usajobs.gov

Thanks for the info. thats the way it appears. :)

Hi,

I work for the VA here and I have worked at 3 other VA's in other states, and we do hire GN's. Currently, we are on a tight budget, for hiring but it won't hurt to apply and follow up frequently. That is actually how I got in. As far a budget they are still hiring, they just are not hiring the amount of persons they use to at one time, for example, instead of averaging 10 new hires they may only bring in 3 new staff a quarter. I called every 2 weeks, until I finally got a call.

The best thing to do is:

1. Put in your application; online or in person

2. Contact the Nurse recruiter for the facility of interest, Note her name so that you may follow up with her

3. Call every 2-3 weeks to check your application status and monitor usajob.gov for further openings.

Good Luck.
