VA Nurse Salary

Specialties Government

Hi! Can anyone provide me with good info on the starting pay for VA nurses? I am applying in both Kansas (Leavenworth VA) and Missouri (Kansas City, MO VA). The salary range for both locations is about $46,000-$88,000. I know salary is based on experience, but I'm wondering if most nurses start somewhere in the middle. I have about 1.5 years med-surg experience. I can easily make more than the $46k at my current hospital position, but I'd like to work for the VA and the benefits can't be beat! Just wondering if I'll have to take a big pay cut. Thanks!

Specializes in ICU.

So will

it take 24 years to get from step1 to step 24? Seems one wold never get to a level

3

Specializes in Operating room, ER, Home Health.

Have not heard of 24 steps. Each level has between 10-12 steps.

Hey guys! Finally done with the process and received my salary 83,375!! But it’s prorated for 32 hours part time. It’s a night position 8 hours. Anyone know what the salary will end up being?

Thankyou!!!

Divide the 83k by 2087 and that will give you your hourly pay. For some strange reason the Federal Government uses 2087 vs 2080.

Specializes in Care Coordination, General Surgery, Oncology.

Huh? That's strange My facility uses 2080 hours. So did the last VA I got paid at.

I was offered a job at VA hospital at Mather, CA $134 grand, Nurse II and step 11. ( same salary amount that I am getting in new jersey) I have BSN ,31 years of operating room experience and a Certification . Is the above salary amount acceptable for Mather ,California? Can I still negotiate for higher like $150 grand and how?

Are you working for the VA in NJ? You can try to negotiate but you will only get 1 more step unless you are able to prove that you are a Nurse III. By looking at their pay scale it would be hard to get 150K since you would have to be a Nurse III step 11.

Currently, I am not working in Va hospital I am working in other hospital in New Jersey.
my job/ salary Offer from Va Mather California o is $134000 ( same as the hospital I’m currently working in Nj which is not Va hospital ) don’t mean to confuse you and thank you for responding soon. I am not looking to be nurse 3 just looking of I can negotiate for higher salary/ steps

Thank you

Unless you become a Nurse III you only have one more step as a Nurse II.

Did they MAX OUT your pay?  ??(Thank you so much in advance)

Unfortunately I didn't accept the position and didn't negotiate.
