VA Nurse Practitioner

Published

Does anyone work at the VA - veteran affairs as a nurse practitioner? If so how do you like it? I work as an RN at the VA now but I would like to know how working as a NP there is...

Is it a requirement to be board certified as an NP yup work at the VA?

To practice as an NP yes you have to have your own NPI# because NP's work just as a doctor does. The VA works in PACT teams, the NP or Doctor is the top, then you have a nurse, SW, and admin service member. But the VA only about 8 months ago passed a law that allows all NP's in every state to have full practice, as opposed to me if I worked as an NP outside the VA, Texas is a fully restricted practice state that requires certain duties to be reviewed by a doctor.
