VA medical center job

Nurses General Nursing

Hi, I was wondering how the VA application process worked. I have a CA LVN license and was looking into a position in AL at their medical center in Birmingham. The licensure requirement states I need a license from any US state or territory. Does that mean I can apply for and work at that VA with only my CA license or do I need to endorse to AL? Has anyone worked at that particular facility? Any advise or suggestions are much appreciated!

From my understanding with the VA, your CA license should be fine.

You could always make a call to the HR department and ask just to be 100% sure.

Specializes in Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care.

There is an extensive thread outlining the VA hiring process on the Military/Government page. The hiring process is quite extensive and can last many months. reading that thread will acquaint you with all you need to know. Good luck!

Since the job is Federal, it accepts an active license in good standing from any State. You do not need to have a license IN the State in which you are applying, or hope to work. You only need to meet the requirements of that license. However, the Fed requirements of nurses are for specific national accreditations; if your school is not accredited by that agency, you will have a problem.

USAjobs.com will have the details for any specific job you are looking at.

ACK, too late to edit my post! I meant USAjobs.gov. Above won't work, make sure it's .gov :)
