Help! I have an interview scheduled a VA hospital in Nc, what can I expect them to look for? What is a "clearance" I am currently a state employee but also had a "boo boo" while working at a department store at age 17 will this be brought up? Could this keep me from landing the job?

Hey-

I currently work at a VA hospital. Clearance is a federal background check. It is very in depth, but if the "booboo" was b/f your nursing license and you passed the state board check, then odds are you will pass the va check as well. Without knowing the particulars, it's impossible for me to say. Just be honest and forthcoming about it, b/c with the federal government, they WILL find it out.

Thank You for responding! I needed someone to help ease the stress. My interview is in four days and its all I keep thinking about! The " booboo" was before my eightenth birthday and before passing the state test, so i feel more at ease now. (Even though I know that "booboo" will likely still be noted) Thanks so much! Any pointers on landing this interview? Do you think it will be a panel interview? Should I bring written reccomendations with me?

I recently interviewed with the VA. The interview is a panel interview, however I chose to have mine as a phone interview rather than a normal interview. Being behind the phone makes it a lot easier!!! :D But the interview questions are situational questions where they want to know the situation, what you did to fix it, and the outcome of you fixing it. They will also ask why you chose the VA rather any other facility.... REALLY impress them here! As soon as my interview was over they called my reference! I got the job!!!! I start in two weeks!

Thank you! What position will you hold? Were you contacted by a nurse as I was?

Yes I was contacted by the nurse manager... But after the interview it is ALL HR that'll contact you...

Ohh that is wonwonderful! I spoke with the va nurse today and scheduled an interview over the phone since i live three hours away and have to work as well. However, now im concerned that I will appear lazy or unwilling to compromise. Do you think i am selling myself short by requesting a phone interview? This is for a cna position.

No I do not think you're selling yourself short!!! My interview went well and I was wondering the same thing... Now I'm glad that I chose the phone interview!!! I rocked it!! They were really impressed with me and called me the next Monday to offer me the job!
