VA hiring questions

Specializes in PCU, ICU.

Hello all!

I applied to the VA in seattle and things are moving along faster than I anticipated. I was interviewed on Sept 12th, received a tenitive offer on Sept 14th, completed Vetpro and eQip the following week. I received a salary offer on Sept 27th and now have a my fingerprint and physical appt scheduled on Oct 7th. I was surprised to receive a salary offer so early in the process. I felt that it was generous. I got a nurse 1 level 3 step 9. I have my BSN with 4 years experience including 1 year ICU experience. The position is for ICU as well. Is this odd I got a salary offer so quickly? I live out of state so I was surprised to have even gotten a call at all as I am sure Seattle has plenty of amazing and qualified nurses applying. I've always wanted to live in Washington and work in the VA, so this is a double awesome sauce for me. If anyone has any insight, please comment! I've read lots of threads on here about the hiring process but was looking for some updated info. Thanks a bunch ladies and gents!

To be honest Im surprised the process went as fast as it did for you. Usually it takes months from beginning to end.

Right?!?!? Any idea why? I'm not bragging, especially to those who had to wait months and months. Waiting is so stressful. I'm just not sure why it seems to be going so fast for me. I'm not sure if they've received my transcripts or any results from my background check, etc. So maybe it's a hurry up and wait sort of situation. I dunno. It kinda concerns me but at the same time I'm grateful too.

Doesn't mean it is a bad thing. Maybe they didn't have a lot of applicants or like you said it could be hurry up and wait; the government is really good at that.

I interviewed for a position in May but was not selected. Two more openings were posted w/a close date of Aug 5 so I resubmitted an application. I was given a tentative offer Aug 22, did my physical, blood, urine and ekg testing Aug 31. I received my firm offer yesterday and start orientation Oct 31. I am pleased with how quickly the process went. I have my BSN with 4.5yrs nursing experience and will start as Nurse 2 Step 3.

That's awesome! Congratulations on your new job. I'm so excited for you! I'm glad that your process went so quickly, I'm hoping that's the way mine is going as well. Guess I'll see after I get the physical and Fingerprints dine this week. I admit I'm anxious about it but trying to chill out. Did they contact all of your references? Did you have to kinda stay on top of anything to expedite things? I don't wanna be annoying, but I don't want to sit and twiddle my fingers. Not my style ;). Thanks for your input and congratulations again on your new job at the VA!
