From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
Wundernurse, they can be very slow to update if they update the status at all. But, let's say they offer the position to someone else and that person turns it down. Maybe the salary is too low or other things happen. It can take months for the hiring process for the first candidate. They may still come back to you if you are the next best candidate. It does happen. I would not wait or turn down other things but it is possible. If you are interested in working for the VA, keep applying.
There was a message on my phone when I got home that want me to call on Monday and set up an interview!!!! Yea! pfghang, can you tell me how you did the PBI prep. I just printed the questions. Did you answer all of them? There are so many! I will work on this weekend. Pray for me please!
No, I did not answer all of them. However, I spent a LOT of time reviewing them so I could anticipate what might be asked and not be totally surprised. I also came up with several examples of situations to answer many of the questions. They will probably ask what you did in a situation and how it turned out and what you might do differently. Think about those questions as you would with the nursing process. I took my notes in with me and did use them which was fine. I wanted to be sure I didn't leave out important things. One of my examples was something that did not go well, but I discussed how I evaluated and then how I would modify actions. It was actually refreshing to discuss the PBI questions instead of "What are your weaknesses?" LOL. Good luck!
Yikes, I forgot how the government can be a "hurry up and wait" deal. I submitted Vetpro, equip and other paperwork almost 2 weeks ago, and nothing yet. I did call the nurse recruiter and was told that the packet was boarded and was awaiting signature and that HR could contact me this week. Well, nothing yet, and I'd be pleasantly surprised if I hear anything by close of business today. I had also emailed HR around the same time that I was in contact with the recruiter, they stated I was in the boarding process. So, honestly, I have no idea what's going on, as it seems that HR and recruitment are not on the same sheet of music. Not at all worried about a job, as my current manager has been great and is willing to keep working with me. I would like to know something, as my wife and I would like to take the kids to the beach in early June, but I'm very hesitant in dropping a deposit on a house, while knowing that I have a pending job offer.
hi ORTech2RN, I read your comments and I am also in the process of hearing from VA LA. I live in Houston and expecting to move to LA as soon as I will get my final offer. My Vetpro process is completed as of yesterday 4/17/2014 (it says verified); had received a call for my expected salary last week and I accepted it. Quick question, have you done your physical and finger printing yet? When should I expect it? The good thing is HR told me I will be doing it here in Houston so I don't need to spend an airfare going to LA for the physical. Should I expect the physical and fingerprinting anytime soon?

Quick question: had an interview last week that I thought went well, but got an email saying another candidate was selected this week. Usajobs still shows my application status as "received". Any chance that I could still be considered for this position, or are they just slow to update the website?
