UWF FNP Program Fall 2020

Nursing Students NP Students

Updated:   Published

Hi !

I have decided to make this new forum because I just applied to the University of West Florida FNP Online Program and thought this would be a good way for all prospects to communicate as we go through the admission process. I know we must all have some questions, and I am hoping we can all ease each other through this process.

If you run into this forum and are currently in the program please feel free to give us an inside scoop :). Any info will be greatly appreciated. I know this is a fairly new program, so I hope to hear from you soon!!

So who got accepted!?!? I applied to start January 2022 and I am anxiously awaiting! To those of you who were accepted, do you mind sharing your stats? I have 3.8 GPA for BSN. Almost 10 years experience, 5 in ICU. I have CCRN and CSC. A little bit of volunteer activity but not much. Think I have a chance?

First of all, congratulations!! Second, get a calendar for keeping track of items such as when assignments are due or utilize icalendar or Google calendar to sync and download the Canvas student app (your classes at your fingertips).  Search for your preceptors now and early (I'm on my 4th for this semester).

My stats are 11 years clinical nursing in primary care, pediatrics with vaccinations, and antepartum. 3.47 for ADN and 3.5 for BSN....

No worries, you will do great as long as you keep good communication between you and your instructors.  Start to get to know your cohort, y'all will be together for the next 30 months and it will go by quickly.  Counting down - 320 more days for me. ^_^. Any questions you can message me. ALL the instructors are awesome, much better than my BSN in my opinion.  I

That’s awesome!! Congrats! Wanna trade places LOL!?! So you think my chances of being accepted are decent is what I am hearing.
how do you find clinical sites? I am anxious about that (if I’m even accepted)

fingers crossed. The wait is killing me and I won’t find out until November.

also, what area are you in? I am in southwest Florida. I keep hearing the market is saturated with FNPs generally but I know it is very specific to area. Are you finding open positions in your area?

Giving everyone a heads up! UWF really prepped me for the boards and I took the AANP and passed on first try on 9/1/22!

The professors really cared about their students and will do in their power to help you understand. There was one professor who shall not be name was so-so.

@cyram81RN Congratulations on passing first attempt! I was just admitted to the UWF program for Spring. I was hoping to find someone who could give me the run down on your experience and any tips you may have. I tried to send you a message but it said I couldn’t.

Hi all! I just got accepted for FNP Summer 2023. I know this forum is older but I was wondering if anyone can give me any insight on the program.

I have a few questions if you guys don't mind me asking-

1) what's the passing grade needed for classes? I thought I read somewhere it's a B, but is a B 80-89 at this school? Or do they do plus and minuses?

2) are the modules PowerPoints from the professors? I read a review that someone wrote saying there are no PowerPoints and they only assign readings from the books making it hard to learn. that makes me a little nervous ?

3) if I'm starting in the Summer does anyone know if I have to take pharm and patho? That makes me a little nervous since it's condensed.

any insight is appreciated!

thanks!

Congratulations into the program! The program will go by really fast. The passing grade is 83. The group program is mostly self taught with modules, PowerPoints & videos. Some classes her PowerPoint slides. Some classes are mostly reading from the book on some of the classes are straightforward from the books and textbook readings. I forgot what class as I start with in the Summer, but I do know I took pharmacology first it was a bit difficult.

Thanks for the reply! If you could go back would you still pick UWF? Did you work throughout the program? Are the tests open book at all? Sorry for so many questions LOL it's been 8 years since my BSN so I'm a little worried!

To be honest the program wasn't too bad, there was always a few professors who were so nice to have your back and answer your questions. I worked full time from May 2020 until March 2021 then I went per diem due to the clinical hours which took a lot of my time. Also start searching for preceptors now. I was searching for preceptors Dec 2019 before I found out I was accepted in May 2020 cohort.

The tests are not open book, but if you follow the readings and attend the grand rounds you will be okay. My BSN was about 8 years also when I started this program and my BSN was much harder than this master program.

Hey, I was also accepted for the Summer 2023 program and thinking to start looking for preceptors now. I got the email stating each course has a clinical focus and that I need to find a preceptor for each. Can I ask how many preceptors you had to find? I see we have care of adult 1 and care of adult 2, care of women, and child and family. I'm guessing we need a pediatric preceptor, women's health, and some kind of primary care. So would that be 3 preceptors? Do you know if we can use the same preceptor for adult 1 and adult 2?
