UVM MEPN acceptance/rejection letter date

Published

I would like to know when to expect a letter from UVM for the MEPN program - and also how people like it.

Hi, I also recently applied to the UVM MEPN program and have been told mid Feb to expect a letter. I would not be surprised though if it drags out a few more weeks from what others report from previous years. Let's hope not, because I don't want to wait any longer! I'm hoping with the earlier deadline that we will find out soon! Where are you from? Did you apply to any other MEPN programs? I only applied to UVM's program and thought i would have a good chance of gaining acceptance but at a recent info session was informed that the program has received a record number of applicants this year and may even begin an interviewing process.

Anyone else have some input about this?

Also, how do people like the program at UVM? Any advice before entering the program or what to expect, especially during the first year?

thanks!

I applied for the Adult Care MEPN this year. I felt unsettled about the guidelines for the Personal Statement. I tried many times to gain information by calling the school and nursing department, but no one could tell me a straight answer on how long the Statement should be (either they didn't know, or said there was no limit, or said to stick to the online application guidelines- it was frustrating). I ended up submitting a short one since the website claimed 500 characters (which I think is too short for a statement). I was bummed because I felt I had a really good 2 page double spaced one that I submitted to several other schools. I live in California so I couldn't attend info sessions to get more details. So far I'm interviewing for UCSF and Yale which is great, but I wish UVM would have let me use my longer/better statement that got me interviews at those schools. Any idea how many they accept for an entering class?

Congrats on getting interviews at UCSF and Yale! Have you interviewed yet or is that still coming up, and if so how did it go? I really want to stay local so I only applied to UVM, so if i don't get in....well there is always next year!

In the past UVM has not interviewed, but apparently with so many applications they are considering it this year. I can completely relate with you regarding the length of the personal statement. I ended up going over the 500 word limit because i didn't feel like i could say much with that restriction. Oh well, I figure as long as its good they won't mind if they have to keep on reading a bit.

I believe they accept 16 or 20 people for the new class, so pretty small compared to many other schools.

You must be quite a compelling candidate to have already been offered to interview at some of the more competitive schools. What kind of a background work, GPA, GRE etc are you applying with, if you don't mind me asking.

Good luck with the interviews!

Thanks! Only 16-20, wow that is very few. Most schools I applied to accept around 60-80. So far I've applied to 8 schools and am crossing my fingers since anything could happen! No actual acceptances yet. I have no strong ties to staying in Cali, so I basically applied to MEPN or direct entry programs all over the country. My interviews are in 2 weeks and I'm getting a bit stressed, but trying to just stay calm and relaxed.

My background: I have a BA in English, 3.6 GPA. My emphasis was on immigrant and third world studies and did a lot of college work in inner city shelters and working with addicts, immigrants, and underserved populations. I worked as an Anthropology editor for 2 years publishing case studies. I have volunteer experience working with low income, Spanish speaking immigrants in family clinics, WIC, and some nursing home work. I've gotten involved in medical projects overseas in South America and Asia. I went on several trips with health care teams where we basically worked in slums and I got to do a lot of hands on nursing stuff that I wouldn't get to do normally. My GREs were nothing special 1140 and 4.5 writing. I spent a lot of time connecting my background with a clear goal and was lucky to get really great letters of rec. But like I said...no actual acceptances yet!

I actually dont know much about UVM. Were the info sessions insightful? I get the small school vibe from it which I like. Did you gain valuable info when you went to the session?

I was really impressed when I visited UVM's nursing program. In talking with faculty I had the sense that these people are committed to, and tremendously excited about, what they are doing. It was a nice contrast to New England's other MEPN program. I grew up in NH and have always heard that for a public school UVM rivals the ivy leaguers.

The official word from the office is 16 and they have over 100 applicants to pull from with no interviews for this year. I asked on 1/5 about the acceptance/rejection letter and the office said that the letters should go out in February, "maybe early February."

I also applied to UCSF and gratefully got an interview so I can only hope UVM will like what I wrote.

I would love to hear from anyone who is in the program, especially a PHMNP student, to learn what they think of it.

Hey did anyone get in? I didn't.... but I hope the best of you had better luck. I am relieved because i've been here my whole life and was ready for an adventure :)

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I got accepted to UVM's MEPN program and plan to attend. Anyone else out there decide on UVM? I'm completely switching careers with this move to become an NP but I'm really excited about it. I'd love to hear from anyone else in the same boat. Thanks!

Csulliva - i applied to UVM but didn't get in. I am going to Marquette in Milwaukee. I was a case manager and before that did office work, so a pretty big switch for me too - but fortunately i did undergrad in pre med and am a HUGE fan of pathophysiology and all that good stuff. Are you from Vermont? I am from Burlington - so if you are not I can answer questions. :)

I got wait listed at UVM. But I'm happy because I got into Yale, Hopkins, Columbia, and Marquette (still waiting on UCSF decision). Yale was my first choice so I'm really happy.

I too am completely switching careers (from English major with background in publishing/editing), and I'm sure there are plenty others in that boat! Good luck UVMers and all others ;)

Congrats! I got into Marquette and Columbia, still waiting on Vanderbilt, but decided I like Marquette - so that's where i'm going. Good luck on UCSF

CSullivi, I applied at UVM MEPN and was fortunately accepted. I am also new to this forum. It is the only school in which I applied. With a class of 16, I wasn't holding my breath! Hopefully the program expands in the future. It almost did not occur this year at all. Any other men besides me in? I don't think there were many male applicants.
