Hello everyone. I have a question about UVC and UAC set up in the NICU. I am hoping that a few somebodies could list the set up equipment that they use for UVC and UAC placement. I used to have a folder with this type of stuff in it (that I made, because our unit does not have a check list). The folder was lost. I want to be as prepared as possible the next time I go to work. I am just getting off of maternity leave, and am feeling a tiny bit rusty about certain aspects of the job. I want to prep up as much as possible. Thank you so much for your help.:heartbeat

Do you mean the tray itself? Ours are packaged and sterilized in CSR.

Thanks for posting. We get a tray and then we get the caths, but how many syringes and other stuff like that. I am worried about being rusty when I get back. My hope is that I get lucky and am the person helping a bad admit so that I can remember everything rather than being in charge of the admit right away.

Well...I can't vouch for what's in our tray, but I can tell you what I have to gather. I have to get together the universal tray, the catheters (a double lumen for a UVC and a single lumen for a UAC), 3 stopcocks (well, one for each lumen, so if not placing both, it might not be 3 stopcocks), betadine, four 10mL syringes, normal saline, a sterile gown, sterile gloves, a mask, and a bonnet. Our tray has things like clamps and a scalpel and cups to hold the saline and betadine and sutures and swabs...not sure what else. We drop onto the field the catheters, the stopcocks, and the syringes. We then put the betadine and saline into the little cups. We also help the person placing the line on with his or her gown. And other than that, we stand by while the NP or MD does the work...and we observe to make sure that sterile technique is not breached.

This may be different at your hospital. I would maybe ask someone to remind you of that when you get back in the swing of things.

HTH!
