Hello, All!
I figured I would start a new thread for people applying to the UVA CNL Program for 2016. I have to admit I'm pretty nervous about applying, and I really hope it all works out. I'm graduating from Virginia Tech this May with a degree in Psychology. I haven't completed all of my pre-reqs yet, but my gpa is decent, and I'm a nationally certified EMT. I'm nearly done with my application, but a little nervous that my references won't submit their letters in time :/ let me know how your process is going!

Congrats to everyone who got good news! I mentioned before, but since someone asked: I know we have at least two people in our current program who were on the wait list, so if you ended up there, don't give up hope! And to anyone who didn't get good news: I know of a handful of folks who didn't get in their first time around or who didn't get into their first choice but ended up extremely happy in another program, so try and keep that in the back of your mind. It sucks that they can't accept more folks in each class, so sometimes it's just how the cards fall. Having the stats to be considered a legitimate candidate in the first place pretty much guarantees you success soon no matter where you land.
To the incoming class: I highly recommend one of you start a Facebook group. (You can make it a closed group.) It's a great way to share information and get to know each other. You'll have a TON of questions going forward, and it beats trading a thousand e-mails. We even had a few second-year students in the program volunteer to join our group who answered lots of our questions about everything from textbooks, where to live and park, what to expect, etc.
Hope this makes your holidays wonderful. Glad the waiting is over for you. Get ready for a crazy ride!
I echo all of this. Congratulations. I assume they take people off wait list per a professor I spoke with just 2 days ago who is an active participant in the selection process, so do not give up hope. Yes, make a Facebook group, it will ease your mind and all your questions will get answered by the class above you.
As for the stats questions, I went to UVA undergrad with a 3.9 GPA. No gre scores because my GPA sufficed. I took all pre reqs at piedmont community college, I got A's in all of them (i heard As in A&p) were pretty important per the admissions counselor before the one they have now. I had zero healthcare experience. However, I volunteered locally at the homeless shelter, in the PICU, and emergency department at UVA For a year to be sure this was a path I could see myself on.
My class had all walks of life, some had been out of school for years and were making a total career change. I think they really look holistically at every candidate. I urge the ones that didn't get in to seek out answers to make yourself a more desirable candidate for next year. If UVA is your passion, do not give up!
As for wait listed, I have no idea if anyone from my class came off the waitlist. It was never discussed. Actually it never really crossed my mind that someone could of been off the waitlist. We were all just so thankful to be in the program.
Congrats to everyone wait listed, accepted, and to those not in. Don't. Give up on your dream.
Thank you for your words of encouragement! I am disappointed that I did not get in. I did send an email after finding out, for them to contact me and let me know how I can better my application next time.
I have a bachelors in psychology with a 3.75 gpa. I have worked in housing for 10 years and am currently an assistant manager for a housing complex. I do not have health care experience, but have volunteered at a local hospital for 10 months now, in oncology, to make sure it is something that I want to do. I have As in all prerequisites except 1 - microbiology (B). I will have to retake all of my prerequisites if I apply next year. Does anyone know of anyone who got in their 2nd time around? If you know someone who got into another program, do you mind sharing the name of a comparable program that they were happy with? I will look either way, but just wondering because UVA is my top pick. Thank you again!
I think we did but can't say 100 percent. I was in the middle of a move, so I ended up calling a week or so after they posted the status update to request a hard copy of the letter since I never received one. (So, pretty sure they never sent out a package, per se, but perhaps everyone got an official letter of acceptance.)
Are you able to check your status in SIS or wherever? (Can't remember exactly where we tracked our statuses.)
I am making a facebook page for the new class! If someone could PM the link to their facebook profile, I need to add at least one person to the group before it can be active. I would greatly appreciate it!! When it's active, just search "UVA CNL Class of 2018". If you can't find it, post on here, and I'll PM you the link!
Hi Carolid, unfortunately I can't send PM bc I don't have enough threads yet hahaha. My email is [email protected] if you want to send me an email and I can try to send you my fb profile link!
