UTMB Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Hey guys!

:)

The application period for UTMB Spring 2013 is now open! Have any of you already applied/ taken the teas? Good luck to all!

Holy cow...I just got in *happydance*

I absolutely agree! I personally live about 2 & a half hours from Galveston & would have to find somewhere to live plus roommates if I could & this leaves little time to make such a big decision.

If they do end up leaving you hanging until the last minute, you can always crash on my couch. :) That is, if I have an apartment by then, AND if your aren't allergic to cats :/

You got interviewed, right? I can't believe you haven't heard anything yet.

Congrats to you! Need a link to the FB group?

Congrats to you! Need a link to the FB group?

Yes, please! And thank you!

Ha ha thanks! Yes I had a interview on 9/24 & thought it went well but he did tell me I could know up until the first day of school.

My interview was on the 24rh also and I still have not heard back. I kind of feel my application is in limbo. Like they aren't ready to deny it but not accept it either. I'm thinking they are holding off to see what else is out there and who accepts as other schools are accepting. If this makes sense..

I wonder why they don't look all applications first, narrow it down, and then tell everyone yay/nay/waitlist all at once? I would hate for them to miss out on awesome students just because they came in at the end of the pack and they choose elsewhere.

I guess if they did that, we all wouldn't know until December, and who knows how many people would have already accepted elsewhere...

I guess there is no perfect way do these things.

That way would make sense to me. If you don't meet minimum requirements those are automatically out then review rest. It has been 3 whole months since everyone's application has been in.

I just got in. I checked online today. I've been waited so long that it seems surreal and normal at the same time. Can someone send me the Facebook link?

Will Do. Congrats!

Thanks a million. Now I have to figure out the logistics of traveling from Richmond, TX to Galveston.

Hi Guys,

Congrats to the new admits! I know its an exciting step.

For those still waiting, I have some advice. No news is good news. UTMB has done their admissions this way for a long time and while from the outside it seems absurbd, it works for them. There is method to their madness, I promise. Calling is not going to help anything, not even a little bit. Has anyone posted that they called and got an answer of yes or no??? Nope. Every one is told something different, simply depends on who answers the phone. Don't you think they are a little tired of fielding the same questions?? If anyone had a toddler, they can imagine what the SON goes through. They say what ever so they can get off the phone. I know it seems cruel, but they have jobs and are answering close to 100 calls EVERY DAY! When your applications were due, a new class was just starting and they were STILL admitting students. That's right, you can possibly be admitted all the up until COB on the FIRST DAY OF CLASS!! So the committee didn't even begin reviewing until the new class was situated. (September!)

Now, lets talk about the committee. It's not just a bunch of people that just do applications. It is the actual professors! They take home huge stacks on their evenings and weekends and read through applications, transcripts, and supportating statements. They do this on top of their own course coordinator and clinical responsibilities. It is a MASSIVE undertaking, especially when you realize how many applications they receive.

While it is not ideal to be accepted in December, the truth is that you may not be notified until January 3! I know students who began on day 2 and they've done just fine. The school knows you're a late notice they work with you. You won't be left hung to dry. So, instead of spending time fretting, spend time making decisions now. If you're accepted, will you go? If definitely yes, start scoping out apartments - look at them online. Get vaccinations. Whether you got to UTMB in January or another school later, you'll still have to have them. Get your CPR card - it's required for every nursing school. Then if its still a while before your accepted, you only need to finalize living, purchase scrubs (which you won't need until week 3 or 4 of class) and buy books. I'm sure classmates would share couches and books to help you out - people have in every other semester. People survive the wacko admission process and people have survived the last-minute notices. Want to know another secret? It doesn't change with admission - things will always be crazy and the ones who make it are the ones who just learn to roll. It is what it is. The #1 key to living through nursing school is F-L-E-X-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y!!!

I realize that it's easier said that done, but just try to take a deep breath and relax. Until you see a green check, or receive the

'no' via USPS, all the worrying and wondering, and frustration in the world isn't going to change anything or make a decision happen faster!
