Nursing Students School Programs

Can anyone who has attended the Utica ABSN program in Florida PLEASE give me some kind of reviews from your experience? It’s so hard to find reviews and it’s starting to steer me away.

Hi! I’m also applying to Utica at St. Petersburg have you found any information yet?

Hey! So far, no real luck. A lot of reviews I came across weren’t in their favor at all. I just recently graduated from USF and a girl who also graduated chose to go to Utica. I’m still keeping in touch with the advisor from there just to have them as a back up. If you find anything, please keep me updated!

Congratulations on graduating! Yes I came across those reviews too ? I’ll definitely write if I find anything! Do you live there?

Thanks so much!! Yeah a couple of the interviews I came across were pretty out there ? but yes please keep me updated! And I live close to USF. I just got an acceptance from Galen but I’m waiting on a few state colleges to make my official decision. I’m hoping to move into a new place so where I go to school will play a big part in my decision

Hey!! I spoke to another girl who graduated from USF in 2019 who is currently in Utica’s ABSN program and the only negative thing she had to say was that she doesn’t think they’re “founded” and that they program can get a little disorganized. Her main thing was that you have to be really dedicated to your work. She’s had a great experience with all of her professors and she chose Utica over other programs because she prefers online classes

Hey, what does it mean to be “founded”? I read they are accredited and have a high pass rate on the NCLEX?

It’s great to know she is having a good experience! I’m waiting for the admissions decision hopefully sometime this week ?? Have you been accepted?

I actually have no idea what it means LOL. I almost thought maybe it was a typo when we were talking, like maybe “funded?” But it still wouldn’t make much sense. Besides that - it was definitely good to hear that her experience is going well so far. I actually just settled in at home from work and saw that I missed a call from my advisor so I’ll be calling him back to see what my status is! We’re currently dealing with an appeal because of some confusion with my grade forgiveness I used in two classes at USF. Are you looking at any other programs?

Haha okay no worries! Hope you were able to clear up the confusion with your grade. I have to take one course through PREP (Chemistry). Yes I’ve also applied to USF ABSN, what about you?

Honestly with this program you will be teaching yourself. The professors will not teach you, they used to have live sessions where they would teach but they had gotten rid of it. Therefore the only "teaching" you would get is from office hours...that's if the professor knows what they are talking about especially since there is so much confusion with the new textbooks. Therefore, you will be told to study what is given off the blueprint and be tested on something completely different, making studying 10x harder than what it needs to be. As far as lab, the professors do have favorites, therefore if you're a quiet individual be prepared to be called on...Points will be taken off assignments for every little mistake such as grammar, yet there are so many grammatical errors on the exams. Be prepared to have an exam every week, it will be to the point where you feel super overwhelmed. Be prepared to come with your writing skills because if you have plans on cheating your way through a discussion, you will get caught. Be prepared to focus on not letting you're grade go below a 77% especially for classes that require you to have a 77% exam average to pass the class because they will fail you and make you retake the entire course even the clinical no matter if you passed the clinical or not. Begging for them to give you the extra points will not get you anywhere in this program. Also, do not let these admissions advisors fool you into this program because they will tell you that you will be taught but in reality you will be sitting at the computer for more than 12+ hours just to teach yourself. The only thing that will truly teach you in this program in is clinicals (if you get a good instructor) or Youtube videos. If you do not believe anything I said, take it with a grain of salt and go through this program yourself and you will understand my frustrations just like everyone else in Utica. You will also notice their NCLEX rates are high, but that is because you have to look at how many people are taking the NCLEX... at the end of the day, the NCLEX is an individual effort, and they use that to showcase that they prepped their students for the NCLEX, but it is the student who does the studying to pass.

Any updated review on Utica? I’m applying would love to hear what current students have to say
