UTI resistant to treatment

I have had a UTI caused by E Coli for over 6 months now. C&S shows its sensitive to Macrobid and Augmentin and a few other IV antibiotics. I've taken 2 courses of Augmentin, 2 courses of Macrobid and it will not go away! Not even for a day. I have a history of kidney stones so I went to my urologist who did a CT scan to check for stones in my bladder. There weren't any. So he told me something about sometimes the bladder mucosa gets inflamed and holds on to the infection so he put me on Macrobid just at night for 6 months. Well I'm at the end of the six months and as soon as I stopped the Macrobid it was back! The very next day! I'm a 37 y.o. Female with no other problems besides the kidney stones. Anyone ever heard of this in someone my age without an indwelling foley? It's driving me nuts! I'm a home health RN and I see this all the time in my patients with chronic indwelling Foley's but never in someone my age that's pretty much healthy. Help!

Ask about a enterovesical fistula if you haven't already ...could be a million other things, but that's just one thing I happen to be familiar with. An individual I knew was treated for infection over and over before a urologist finally diagnosed and fixed the problem.

Good luck to you!

How frustrating this must be, not to mention a worry!

Good you have a urologist involved.

I hope, with the urologist and possibly your Primary, you can get an effective plan and treatment going.
