UTHSCSA Spring 2013

Hey guys

Since i didn't see a chain post for UTHSCSA, so I decided to start one. I believe such a process is a good idea where everyone who has questions gets help and pointers from other students. :D So here we go.. and lets some acceptance letter from UTHSCSA!!!

So far: I am on waiting list for uthscsa for fall 2012...they haven't turned me down yet? I don't think I still have hope for fall but its all new start and now on to Spring.

I have submitted my NursingCAS..taking some summer class to refrest A&P and chem.. and I am taking my TEAS exam again THIS saturday 16th, I am so nervous and going crazy..:eek::uhoh3:. The last time I took it was so hard a lot harder than HESI... But tats life...so I am hoping that my previous exposure to TEAS would help me this time.. Keeping Fingers crossed and praying..

This page has been pretty quiet!

A lot of us "upperclassmen" and/or Peer Advisors have been wondering about this.

Anybody make a FB page? If so, just put the name here and we can probably help answer some questions for you or give a little bit of insight before you start.

Has anyone bought any books yet? I just don't know to buy ebooks or the actual books? Does anyone from previous semesters have any recommendations?

I love using e-books. I didn't use them first semester, but I wish I would have. Second semester I used them, and loved it.

The only downfall is you can't sell them back, but you can rent the e-book.

Hello everyone, glad to see someone started a UTHSCSA chain here. I graduated last December '11, and I am currently a school nurse (not by choice....I never got a call back for any job I applied for). But I wanted to throw myself out there for anyone who has any questions or needs nursing school advice. I was magna cum laude, and I loved nursing school. UTHSCSA2011- wow! Congratulations! Magna Cum Laude in Nursing is a lot of work and I salute you for all your hard work.... With your caliber, I am sure many hospitals would love to hire you..... My first bachelor is from another country and so I tried taking LVN. After I finished it, as soon as I started sending my applications, in 2 weeks I was hired. Then when I moved to a better facility/ hospital (not a nursing home), I was hired on the spot and was asked to attend orientation the very next day. I requested to have the orientation postponed so I can have a mini vacation even just for a week. It was then I realized that Nursing is the only job, I will never run out of options or will they never run out of openings. Even when I am not looking for a job, just by people I interact in the hospital asking me to join them in other companies they are employed, be it as a part time home nurse or a dialysis nurse. So, during the first year of working I had 4 jobs. I had 4 W2. I can barely catch up with all the shifts available. My phone does not stop ringing with all the call-ins in the workplace. Just by holding the pager, they will give an extra $50 for my willingness to cover any call-ins, whether I work or not....... I worked as an LVN only for 2 years and decided I want to continue to BSN. I was recently accepted in UTHSCSA BSN accelerated..... I think you are just not putting yourself out there. What helped me too is the word of mouth. Once you meet nurses and they saw how you work, they will recommend you to the Director of Nursing. Then, moving up is easy. I was even surpirised to know that most nurses refuse to be promoted because they do not want more responsibilities. They said they can earn the extra money just by picking up shifts. I was even offered a promotion as an admission nurse but during the interview they learned that I only have an LPN degree. All managerial positions require a BSN..... I suggest to put yourself out there. Try Nursing home first just for an experience and after 6 months, hospitals will start calling you. Fresh graduate nurse by law should be trained for a month on the floor and most hospitals do not have that budget. So even if you get your experience from a nursing home, that is good enough for most hospitals. Hospitals are willing to train you only for 1-2 weeks and then you are on your own..... I wish you the best of luck. I feel I have to share my experience to you so you can start helping patients. I feel that you are going to be a very skilled nurse if only given the opportunity. :D
