Calling all UT Memphis DNP student together, including alumni. Let's network! Ask any questions about any particular program you are in or know about. I will start.

I have been a nurse 2 years and plan to start the DNP Acute Care program in August 2013. I'm looking for any advice, a list of books, or other materials we may have to buy for school. I also was wondering if anyone knows how the program will run. Lets get to know each other.

If you don't me asking, what were your stats when u applied? That's my top school so I'm hoping to be competitive for it

I just recently finish my BSN but I been a nurse in ICU for 2 years. My GPA is about a 3.5. I had great recommendations (6 total) and that include my managers, an alumni of UT and staff of UT. I say just apply and write a really good essay and have great recommendation especially from someone who finish a UT. The interview is very laid back.

Hey! I'm starting this August as well! I got a list of the books needed from another student, but I was unsure about buying them to see if they changed editions or anything for this year. What's your email and I can send you the list. I'm in the dual track program, so I don't know which books I need for both tracks as opposed to you being in the Acute Care program

I have yet to receive my net ID and I'm definitely checking my email everyday. If you don't mine me asking, how long you been a nurse and where do you work? I work at Methodist university. Oh my email address is [email protected]. Please send me that list. Thanks!

My wife works at Methodist Germantown in the OR and loves it. She really likes the Methodist system as opposed to baptist, how do you feel about it?

I haven't received my netID yet either. I've been obsessively checking my email as well. I hope it comes in the next few days! I've been a nurse for 4 years and I work at UAMS in Little Rock Arkansas.

There are good and bad things about both hospital. I have only been in the Methodist system so I can't really speak about baptist. You know people talk about baptist and I have heard good and bad. For me the Methodist system has been great. The pay is okay and the benefits aren't bad.

I hope it comes too. I was going to call next week to just check and make sure. Have you done your fafsa? I was going to do mine this weekend. Thanks for the book list. I'm going to look for some of the books at barns and noble to just get an ideal and a cost. I'm glad I met you and hopeful we can meet in August! If I find out any information I will definitely post it.

If you don't mind, definitely let me know about the NetID when you call. I finished my FAFSA a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything back from them. I found most of the books on Amazon and when they were all in my basket, the price for all of the books was around 1200. That was with all the books being new- I'm weird about wanting my books to not have writing and highlighter in them when I'm learning. I hope we can meet in August too!

Oh I will. I'm keeping in contact with some other people to make sure I don't miss that email. $1200 lol I need to start saving more. At my job I was planning on going PRN or part time. Are you planing on still working full time? Oh I like new books too, I thought I was the only one like that. In August do you plan on driving everyday?

I'm thinking I'll stay full time this first semseter when there is only classes. I work with a girl who is in her first year there and that's what she was able to do. I've also talked with some other people who finished their first year in the dual program and they said while it was duable to be in school and work full time, it was really stressful. I'm thinking about going part time or PRN in January. I don't want to be in clinicals all week and then work all weekend. And I know one person who took a day of vacation every week so she only worked two days but I like to use my vacation hours as I get them. In August, I plan on stay in Memphis for the week. It's a two hour drive one way and with all the construction on 40 it normally takes closer to 3 hours.
