UTHSC Memphis ABSN Program

Published

Has anyone else applied to the accelerated BSN program at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis for the fall of 2019? I have applied and it's driving me crazy waiting to hear something back. I asked the admissions office and they told me applicants would begin to hear back about interviews sometime in February. Judging by previous posts regarding this topic applicants have had interviews in the past as early as the first week of February and even gotten acceptance letters as early as February 19th. I am wondering it will be any different this year due to the program changing from a 17 month program to a 12 month program. Also, this year you must have already obtained a bachelors degree; whereas in previous years you could have applied as long as you had completed your pre-requisites and 60 credit hours. I would also be willing to assume that because now you must have a bachelors degree to apply the number of applicants will decrease. I'm 25 and I am so excited about starting a career in nursing, I can't wait to hear something from UTHSC!

Unfortunately I won't be able to travel all the way for the interview, but they did give me the opportunity to do a video interview! I am so excited though! What type of questions did they ask and how long do you remember the interview taking?

They asked the basic questions you would expect to hear in a nursing interview, nothing out of the ordinary. They really hammered the fact that because the program is 12 months long it would require you to drop everything for a year and focus solely on your studies. They want to make sure you are aware of that and have prepared financially to not work for a year and also have a good support system surrounding you.

One thing I did find strange (and possibly encouraging) regarding the interview is the fact they they gave me an enrollment commitment form to be filled out and returned after/if I receive an offer. They also gave me a form explaining the expectations of students in the program which they required me to sign that day. This type of paperwork is typically sent out with your acceptance letter/email, not given on the day of the interview. The only logical reason I can come to as to why they would hand this paperwork out on the day of the interview is that if you got an interview then you are tentatively accepted, granted you perform well in the interview. This could mean nothing but my mind won't let me stop thinking about it! What do you think?

I am so happy for you! I agree with your conclusion as well. I bet you did wonderful in the interview and they we're most likely planning on accepting you based on your statistics alone given they were prepared to have you sign this paperwork on the day of the interview.

Regardless I’m holding my breath until the 15th! Good luck in your interview. If we’re both accepted we’ll have to connect before the program begins!

Yes, definitely! Good luck until the 15th! Haha, so daunting!

Hey yall! I have an interview Tuesday at 10! I'm so nervous. Was the interview laid back or very intimidating? Also how many people interviewed you?

Hi everyone! I applied for Fall 2019 as well, and have my interview Tuesday at 12:30. I am so nervous! Can anyone give examples of some of the questions asked? I can’t believe we will be finding out in just 5 days if we get in. My stepsister is currently a student and she has said it’s a very intense but amazing program. I’ve applied to UofM as my backup, but UTHSC is by far my top choice.

I talked to a current student there and she said the interview is very personal. They asked about your support system because they emphasized that the program is very intense, and then the basic questions like what made you want to be a nurse. Nothing too bad or out the way. She told me to just be myself.

Tuesday interviewers, how did it go? Only two more days until we hear back!

It was great! A little early for me because of the time change (7:15am), but none the less the interview felt great! It was actually pretty long. I actually asked during the interview what the current timeline is about hearing back. The interviewers stated I wouldn't hear back until March. I was shocked but didn't ask any further questions. Not exactly sure now. Kinda made me nervous

Hello Guys:

I too applied to the ABSN Program @ UTHSC. Do you all know how long they will be contacting applicants and conducting interviews? I completed everything , have an MBA and Master of Education ( Teaching and Leadership).

Anxiously awaiting some news.

haileyannm that’s very odd considering they have already told applicants they would be communicating with us about admission decisions on the 15th or February.
