UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

Hi oceanise.. I start in the Fall.. Can you tell a lil about the transportation? Like the parking or metro..Thanks

If there's a convenient metro route near you, or a park and ride or something, you might want to consider that. Or take the shuttle if you can. I don't take the metro so I don't really have much info on it. I park at garage 8 on the corner of Pressler & Holcombe. It's $6/day (you won't find a cheaper daily rate in the med center) and there's always plenty of parking, and it's pretty easy to get in & out. However it's a 10 min walk from campus. The garages closer to campus are way too expensive and probably harder to get in & out of. Some garages offer contracts if you prefer that, but I don't think there's any benefit to a contract unless you plan on studying on campus on days you don't have class, or something like that.

Hi oceanise..Tnx so much for all the info.. Im definately going to look into that garage.. Wow I can't believe how pricey parking is:eek:....

Yeah, it's horrible. I think the garages closer to campus are $12/day(!!!) and the one across the street on Holcombe (garage 2 if I remember correctly) is like 8 levels or something ridiculous. So I can only imagine how much of a pain it is to get in and out. I definitely recommend parking further away and then walk, or depending where you park, take the metro rail or the UT shuttle to campus.

Hello, I've been following the thread and It seems to me that many of you who were on a waitlist were called later and accepted to another application period. Does this mean you may be accepted into a later start date and not have to re-apply or did you apply to all sessions? Also, if you are on a waitlist does this give you precedence over new applicants for the next session? I'm just curious if I should apply, my GPAs are average: Overall 3.25, Pre-Req 3.53, Science 4.0. Thanks for any insight!

Who wants to know about the metro?! I was taking it from Katy to school every morning. It was costing me 4.50 both ways I believe. In order to pay that price (student discount) you'd have to go to the metro store and bring some paperwork in show them that you are a student and that gets you a 50% discount! So 4.50 opposed to 9. It's pretty great though. The only bad thing is that the buses from Katy stop running at 6:39 and then don't start pickin up till 3. So depending on when you get your lab time for health assessment, you may have to be waiting at school for a few hrs (studying!). I don't get on here much but I will try to remember to log on this week so you guys can ask me any questions you may have! Good luck to all of you! And remember to just relax before school starts because you won't get much time to relax once school starts.

How much is it for contract parking in the garage? Is it yearly? Monthly?

The school was advertising a $89/month contract that's supposedly a "discount" price. If I remember correctly, it wasn't even that close to campus. There's others where you can pay for the whole semester. I don't know the details but I found this w/google.

It's not worth it in my opinion.

Hi all!

I just got accepted for Fall 2013! Yay!

But I'm still hesitant because I also got accepted to UTMB so I'm trying to figure out which school is better for me.

I know a lot of people have told me that UTHSC is EXTREMELY competitive and that they didn't particularly like the program when they were there.

But it's such a highly ranked school and so convenient since it's in town. Decisions, decisions.......

Hi everyone! I started a thread for the spring 2014 semester applicants which I am one of. Our deadline for application was yesterday. When can I call the SON to see reliably how many people applied? And what number should I use for that? If anyone is on campus, would they be willing to ask someone who knows at the school? Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on submitting your application! I am applying for fall '14 and was also curious about the number of applicants that apply and get accepted. When will you find out if you are accepted for the spring '14 program?

We should be finding out within the next few weeks!! Very exciting! Umm around 1200 applied for this fall and around 800 for spring! But an interesting fact we found out is that only around 350-400 of the 1200 fall applicants this year actually qualified for admission! So hoping the chances are even better for us springers!!!

Thank you sooooo much for all of your advices! Sooooo helpful!!!
