UTHEALTH Summer 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I am wanting to apply to UTHEALTH for Summer 2020 and fall 2019. I will be coming from out of state. This semester I am taking Stats and texas government and taking the HESI. In the Spring, I will take Mirco lab. I will have about a 3.2-3.3 overall GPA by the time I apply. Has anyone gotten accepted with this GPA before?

Hello! I have been lurking for a longgg while and this is my first post/comment. I've been pretty bummed since yesterday because I previously knew that UThealth only does one wave of acceptances but maybe due to our current situation of having everything online... they're doing it in multiples waves now. (Also, I thought that they mainly do email from what I have read on past forums.) I just checked at exactly 12:38 AM AND I GOT IN! My theory is they're doing it alphabetically since my last name starts with an R or maybe it's because I applied really late like a week before the actual deadline. Anyway, please don't lose hope. Y'all got this!

Ugh I can not for the life of me figure out how they do this whole admission thing. I also thought they might do it alphabetically but my last name starts with Ra so if you got yours I probably should have by now too. And I also applied like a day before the deadline lmaoo. Don't know, mines still under review though. But CONGRATS on your acceptance!

For those of you who got denied or have gotten denied before.. what do you like do in the mean time? I already retook all the classes I could afford, (since my state does not allow repeats on classes you passed with a C, I have been spending a lot of money on out of state Tution like for Texas gov and psych stats I paid almost $1600 lmao) my HESI is high, and I already have 2 years as a CNA. I’m just kind of confused what I should be doing. Also cna jobs pay a lil above minimum wage here so I’m not sure how much longer I can do that. Any suggestions/help? ?

I’ve been working during my semester off and reapplying to schools. I don’t want to start another major with the possibility of being accepted to nursing school. If the ones that I’m waiting on don’t work out I’m planning on getting my ADN at a community college then transferring to a university for my BSN.

For UT there is literally nothing you can do to better your chances at getting accepted by them. We all believe it is a random pick, kind of like a lottery. I had a couple of C's one in TX gov and one in nutrition and I never retook any of my classes or got a CNA job or anything for the 3 times I applied to UT. I didn't change anything and I got a denial, a waitlist (and denial) and a straight up acceptance. If you're applying to schools here in Houston like TWU or Prairie View for example, you could retake some of your Bs (if you have them and got the funds!) and try to turn them into an A. Those 2 schools literally pick via a points system and you got a better chance of getting if if you have the best grades you can get. I don't remember if you're moving to Houston only if you get accepted or if you're actually moving but maybe move if you want to retake your Cs? Only if you can afford it though! Also, I don't know if you applied to UTMB but they definitely take into account an interview and work experience so if you haven't maybe apply there as well? Honestly just figure out what your situation is like and go from there.

I agree and that was great advice! So is this your third time trying for UT? Because UTHealth is such a great school, you’d think they go off a point system too but I guess not

Hey yall!! I've been lurking reading these forums for about a year when I applied to TWU, UT Arlington, and God knows where else and faced so many denials. So I have tears finally getting into this program! I’m not sure if anyone has asked these questions or even has any answers. But does anyone know/spoken to a rep at UTH on how they plan to proceed with the Summer semester, if in person or online, at least for that semester due to covid-19 concerns? I'm trying to figure out my next steps as I would have to break my lease in Dallas in order to live in Houston LOL.

I don't think we know yet. Right now the priority are the S2s trying to graduate with clinicals being cancelled. As an S1 I don't really know what's up since Summer semester for me is all clinicals. I do know that all the J1 classed are recorded and posted on canvas so possibly. The J1s right now have online classes and for the labs they were still in until this week I think. Possibly by next semester we'll be able to go back to school if things slow down. Just keep checking your email for updates for sure!

I applied for Summer 2019 (third try) and got accepted. I'm currently a S1! Honestly I think maybe there's certain guidelines they follow to make sure there's variety in each cohort but they won't tell us.

Exactly! I agree with you and I’m sure all of these speculation leads to diversity. If you go read their curriculum or handbook in their website they’re looking for a wide variety of students they can fit into a cohort. All different race, gender, age, occupation etc. If you don’t fit into one cohort then maybe you’re the one they’re looking for in the next one. However, I’m sure that academics does play a really huge role!

I am doing the exact same thing, I am working at a hospital In the meantime while waiting to hear back from a nursing school
