Hello all,
I am wanting to apply to UTHEALTH for Summer 2020 and fall 2019. I will be coming from out of state. This semester I am taking Stats and texas government and taking the HESI. In the Spring, I will take Mirco lab. I will have about a 3.2-3.3 overall GPA by the time I apply. Has anyone gotten accepted with this GPA before?
Hi guys! This is a forum I've followed up with for awhile now. I appreciate you guys sharing updates throughout this application process and thought I'd also chime in. There are 3 parts to my post: 1. My application timeline 2. My personal stats 3. Words of encouragement!
I applied to UTH on Tuesday, 1/14/2020 (rip) and again for the Fall 2020 semester on Saturday, 3/14/2020 (rip again). I found out last Friday, 3/20/2020 around 11 am, that I got accepted for the Summer 2020 semester. The email I received said I had 10 calendars days (until Monday, 3/30/2020) to accept or decline the offer. I got into another BSN program and decided to go to that school. With that said, I'm sure by early next week with conditional offers due your wait will soon be over.
This was my first time applying to nursing school and my stats were below average. I graduated in 2018 with a BS degree in Public Health and have been working as a medical scribe for 1 year. Based on the course eval UTH mailed me, my overall undergrad GPA was a 3.2, nursing pre-req GPA was a 3.6, and pre-req science GPA was a 3.7. Overall HESI score was 92 (I can't remember the score breakdown per section but definitely remember A&P was my lowest of the sections). There were a few nursing pre-req's that I had to retake because I made C's the first time. I'm sharing my stats because I didn't have the "perfect" GPA and HESI scores. It's undeniably hard to not compare your stats to other applicant's stats shared in this thread so I hope seeing my stats at least will alleviate some anxiety you may have if you think your "numbers" aren't average.
All in all, I hope you guys still awaiting updates get to hear good news soon! If there's any encouragement that I, a random stranger on a random forum, can share -- it is to never lose that hope and spark in your desire to become a nurse. It is evident now more than ever that our communities need more nurses! If you get accepted this semester, fantastic! If not, the rejection will initially be a bummer but timing is key and this only builds resilience in you. Maybe the admissions committee figured this cohort isn't your best fit and the semester you DO get in (whether it be at UTH or another one) will bring a cohort of colleagues that allow you to thriveeee and challenge you in the best ways possible. UTH SON sounds like an incredible program and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors! Stay safe and healthy out there :~)

Yes I am! UT doesn't give out waitlist numbers or any info about how they chose people from the list.. I'm super nervous.
I just received a rejection email this morning. It said in the email that it was a competitive pool but I have a 4.0 GPA and a 94% on my HESI and didn’t have to retake any classes. I just don’t understand how they pick. CONGRATS to those who made it please don’t think I’m being rude by saying this I’m just upset.

I completely understand you, I had a 4.0 GPA and a high HESI score.. turned in letters of recommendations, personal statement and also got denied.
