UTA RN-BSN.... any CA residents?

Published

I'm from CA and am looking into UTA's RN-BSN program. I love that this program is affordable and online. I'm seriously considering this program but am curious what CA residents past and present think of the program, and specifically if it's accepted at major hospitals (Kaiser, Dignity, Sutter, etc). I see that this program is CCNE accredited but is it regionally accredited? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!

IMO, CCNE accreditation will go a lot further for your nursing career than any regional accreditation. CCNE accreditation is both national and nursing specific, whereas regional accreditation may not be related to nursing in the least.

UTA itself (the whole university) does have SAC regional accreditation.

I'm currently living in Fort Worth but moved here just a year ago from San Diego. Many of my classmates are living in Southern California. I'm really surprised to see how many CA residents are in the program. I realize I'm not answering your question, but I thought I'd pipe in anyways. Texas Politics is on the prereq list.. It was not a fun class for me and I'm sure it is even more torturous for a CA resident.

Lol history. I'm from San Diego too. I live in SA now going on 7yrs. I was looking into UTA also but decided on local WBU they have a generic online. I had to take both Texas history's I liked it, it help me when my kids came home with hm questions.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's probably okay since so many CA residents are in the program, but I'm going to call the BRN just to confirm.

Thanks, Meriwhen, on the info about accreditation - it's confusing!

Well, I'm a RN-BSN student through UTA and I work at a major hospital...and they're not planning to sack me as soon as I graduate. They're just happy I'm getting the degree because of the whole Magnet thing ;)

I actually liked Texas history...I thought it was fascinating: Texas really does think of itself as its own mini-nation. The US histories, on the other hand, were tortuous for me.

I Live in LA and I am almost half done. Love the program and I know kaiser or any hospitals in CA don't have problem accepting this program

I'm in southern Ca and work at a private hospital. no problem w/them and they reimburse me for the tuition since it appears on their list of accredited nursing RN to BSN programs. If you are worried, why don't you ask at your place of employment? Your educator, HR, your director, or whomever would know about acceptable accreditations can probably tell you if they accept it.

I am in Texas and I think the program sucks! Too many group exercises and too many losers in the groups. If you have a choice, don't choose this program. They are very proud of themselves there like most Texans. Every day, I wish I were a dog catcher.

Hi KimberleyRN,

I applied and was accepted at UTA. In my experience, their response time was horrible. I missed my start date waiting for them to review my transcripts and get back to me. In the meantime, I was getting monthly calls from various enrollment counselors making sure I had my ducks in a roll and they had no idea on what was going in the admissions department. I had to make several calls to admissions to check and see if my transcripts were received; even though, it should have been a simple process since I picked up my official transcripts from my local community college and mailed them myself, thinking it would be much faster. After approximately 2 months of waiting, I finally received notification of acceptance only to find out I had to take 5 or 6 additional classes: college algebra, lit, writing class, Pol Sci, and Texas Gov (which, I feel is a waste of time and money as for I live in CA as well). Therefore, I checked into Grand Canyon University after receiving an emailed flyer from the hospital where I work and so far I have had a better experience. I am still researching GCU but I think I am going to go with them. They have wowed me with their response time. I requested information online and received a call from a very nice and professional enrollment counselor he next day. The difference so far is that your enrollment counselor sticks with you the entire program. I faxed her over a copy of my transcripts and within 24 hours my transcripts were reviewed and I received a unofficial coorifice outline via email. They allowed me to transfer 84 units leaving only 36 units which are the 12 core nursing classes to take. My enrollment counselor requested my official transcripts and assisted me with applying for financial aid. It was a very easy process so far. The classes are 100% online, no entrance exam, no proctored exams, and the classes are 5 weeks long. They are a bit expensive but after UTA added the extra classes they ended up costing more anyways. I plan to start July 29th if everything works out. I hope this helps and this is just my experience with UTA but if the admission process is this complicated, it leaves me to wonder what the rest of the program will be like.

BTW: UTA states their program will cost $8,995 but this is not including books.

I just submitted my application today for the RN-BSN online program and I'm just anxious about the whole process. Just the thought of going back to school and having to work fulltime and fulfill family obligations scares the bejesus out of me. I too am in Socal and was wondering how this has worked out for you. I had considered GCU but the tuition is just way too expensive for me . Also English is not my first language and just wanted to know how tedious are these required essays? Any insights, suggestions, tips are all welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!
