Hello-
I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital).
I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.
I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.
I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.
Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.
Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).
I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.
look forward to your response!

hey how's the program going? I have a question, sine you work for TRH (a partner hospital) does that mean you will you have to remain an employee while your in nursing program?
I am employed with Baylor, and so are the other seven people in my cohort, but I think that the answer will be the same. Yes, you can quit. One of my co-students was employed with Baylor (an AP partner), but after being accepted she quit because she was not able to get weekends off (which is when we have had many of our clinicals). Even though we are Baylor, not THR, I think it would be the same for you.
@ShellyE, I only know one person that has taken Stats at UTA and they failed it. I am scheduled to take Stats this fall and am very nervous about that class. I've been putting it off and putting it off, but now I have to take it. I agree with what you said about College Algebra at UTA. I made an A, but there is no way I could have gotten that grade without tutoring from my daughter, who had just completed Algebra 2 in high school.
There is NO teaching! It is set up easy. Each chapter has 6 sections (of different material) and you do each homework section then the Ch. test for each of the 5 chapters then the final. Today was the last day to withdraw so I went through it all to see if I could pull off a passing grade and couldn't. What infuriates me is that I finally resorted to getting tutoring the last week and made As on all of the homework, then did the review for the chapter and would miss 1-2 so thought I was good for the Ch. test but then I would bomb it. The problems on the Ch. tests are not like the review. They are much more difficult and different from what you did. I failed 3 out of 5 of the ch. tests so I was just not going to even try to do the final. I had a 64 in the class. You better have someone that can sit with you and show you how to do the problems.
I was wondering the very same question, and have not gotten a response yet. I wont need to work while in nursing school, can you quit after the first semester when things start getting tough. How does that work?
I'm starting the program at Parkland in the fall and I won't be working. It's not a requirement there, and I've been told it's preferred to work as little as possible with not working at all being the most ideal. We had to do a time management calendar as part of our orientation just so we could really see what we are committing to, time-wise. I came up with 55 hours a week between studying and clinicals (20 hours a week) and that was based on their minimum recommendation for study hours. So not working is definitely ideal, if you are lucky enough to do that :)
@stephwp...can you tell me a little about the application process at Parkland...I've submitted a couple applications in the last couple days and I'm wondering if they take awhile or does a recruiter call fairly quickly? Just trying to figure out what to expect....thanks! Congrats on the program!
Hi all! This question is for those who have completed nursing micro at uta through online-ap... The tests have been extremely difficult and extremely tricky... Absolutely ridiculous to say the least.... Since my class averages are in the mid to low 70s I'm sure they agree lol. Anyways... Today I received an email containing a review for the final from the professor.. Is this review true to what the exam holds or should I study more extensively than what has been presented? Thank you very much for your responses!!

Ok, I was enrolled in College Algebra online with UTA. It was terrible! I had a 106 final grade in Int. Algebra last semester so I thought it would be fine. I am going to take it at my local comm college this sem. My question is has anyone here taken the statistics online with UTA??? I was wondering if it was as difficult to do online. I am usually a pretty quick learner and an A student accept for Microbiology. But there was NO teaching going on in College Algebra. Any input about the statistics class is greatly appreciated!!!
