UTA gpa questions.

Published

Hello guys,

I'm currently going to University of Texas at Arlington as a pre-nursing student.

I have a overall gpa of 3.64 and science gpa of 3.0

I will be applying for the nursing program this semester.

Do you guys think I have enough chance to getting into the program?

I'm worried because of my 3.0 science gpa.

One last question about gpa calculation.

I have retook some classes and made better grades.

What my question is, do only my highest grades that I earned from retaking classes calculated as an overall gpa??

Thank you so much for your time.

This is a hard question to answer and it depends on several things! I will say I have a prior degree and I went to visit with the Advisor and I made a C back in 97 on Chemistry and she recommended I retake that course to bring up my GPA. I am sure there are others on here that may have more experience at this than me. She did tell me that if you have at least a 3.5 you are considered competitive! Are you applying for the online or campus?

Thank you so much for your response.

Do you mean 3.5 for overall gpa or science gpa to considered competitive?

I'm applying for campus but can you please tell me the difference between applying online or campus since I don't have much knowledge about nursing program?

Thank you so much for your time!

and is it easier to get in if I apply for the online?

There are a lot of things that factor into acceptance. You can go to UTA's website and look up what you need to do to be accepted and they list many considerations that boost your competitiveness. If you don't already know all this information, then it would be best if you can talk to a nursing adviser at UTA to find out what would make you a more competitive candidate. There are so many factors besides just GPA that affect acceptance.

My Nursing advisor told me to re-take my chemistry over to bring my Science GPA to a 3.7. I have A's in my other sciences. She said they do look at overall GPA as well I have seen students get in with a lower overall GPA. However, you have a 3.6 overall, is there a science class you can retake? Did you take your sciences at UTA? Where are you in your pre-nursing classes? I heard the online BSN AP is more competitive and for students that are partnered and already have a prior degree, and it is much more competitive! There are students that get in that are not partnered but there GPA have been very high! Campus is the same except you would attend classroom and clinical is close by she told me! There are lots of info of forums on the UTA Nursing here you can get info on. Since UTA is very competitive I applied to other Nursing Programs as well.
