UTA FNP Spring 2020

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I applied for the online FNP program at University of Texas Arlington starting Spring 2020 (Jan). I'm wondering if anyone else applied! Also, when do we find out if we got in?

Make sure you do your research on job placement post graduation. Investing in yourself is awesome and rewarding but so is knowing there are JOBS out there willing to hire and train new NP grads. Most NPs that graduated from 2018-2019 are STILL working as RNs- why you ask when you see numerous job postings for NPs. Very few are willing to hire and train a newbie no matter how much experience you have as an RN. So if schools are turning out hundreds of NPs each semester even though the real job opportunity is NOT there. So word to the wise- do your homework

Did anyone take patho w/ Dr.Gonzalez and can guide me as to how to prepare for his exams please?!?!

So far my first two classes (Theories and Research) were open-book quizzes and exams. You had one hour to complete and a few that were unlimited time. I start Advanced Patho which will probably not be open-book and you have to use a webcam to take the exams. I won't know until May 18.

Any advice for Patho halfway done any tips?!?! to be successful for last 2 exams PLEASE SHARE

any advice on how to tackle family one and two

Hi, I am planning to apply to UTA FNP program. How is the program going? What are the pros and the cons? I really like the flexibility and the schedule one class at a time and one week off between classes.

Please help. Thanks in advance and congratulations to all on your acceptance to the program.

Firstly congratulations for taking this next big step

Where do I even begin when I started this program I was in between UTA and TWU. I choose uta because the online option and the fact we only had to do one class at a time, things were smooth sailing until advanced patho, luckily I found a uta facebook group and we students came together and communicated and studied together and I was able to find a couple students that till this day I continue to study with (thank God for them) also Dr.Gonzalez was a great teacher and his exams were doable I just dislike the amount of content plus some of us students are full time nurses with children and life beyond school. Health assessment also doable I just dislike how the teacher hid the assignment content so students who wanted to get ahead or who had to find people to do the demonstrations/assessment videos with were basically forced to complete assignment in that week instead of before hand if she had just made all assignments viewable from day one. Advanced pharmacology the worst nursing class I have ever taken and I am sure I’m not alone in this, trust me I am not saying this because I made a C. I worked hard for my C and I was pregnant while studying so I was estatic to even pass without disrupting my pregnancy. If I am paying about $2000 per class I would like an instructor who is not just going to read me PowerPoints and tell me go take an exam with a billion content and expect me to understand of course as a student I’m just going to memorize to pass, and I feel terrible about that honestly I do. I think an instructor with a fresh mind will do.. exams that match with the study materials and when making module videos be more lively, enthusiastic, personable, and please note that we want to only know material that will be useful in practice or for exams. In other words don’t lecture over red, blue, orange, green, purple, and pink when only red is going to be presented to me in the exam.. you’re hurting our brain and listen we are coming back from a 12 hour shift… or trying to put our kids to sleep and have work the following morning for example. You guys were definitely harsh with the respondus videos during this class as well telling us positions to place the camera. We understand you guys trying to eliminate the possibility of academic dishonesty but telling us one day or even hours before exams was very stressful. Next, and second most important the fact that we already have to pay $2000+ per class then have to find our own preceptors… really UTA. If I had known this I probably would have went to TWU or looked for another program. The amount of stress this puts students in is awful. I just had to pay some out of pocket on my own because I would like to graduate on time as I have a baby to raise. All in all please reduce your content for patho and most especially pharm or please try to locate another instructor, and lastly, please let forthcoming students know that they will have to find their own preceptors. Also for family 2 some coaches graded more harshly than others which I felt was unfair and distasteful. Please UTA make changes so that more students can be more successful in this program.
this is some of the complain I made to the program

I graduate this December and it was not easy im grateful I also had a couple friends in the program as well so we all studied together. It is doable if you are comfortable with teaching yourself

Hi everyone!

I just applied to UTA online FNP program for the 7/4 start date. I have a 3.4 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 nursing GPA. I'm wondering if this is competitive enough for admission. Also, to those who are in the program, how are you liking it? Do you feel supported and have the resources to be successful?

Hello, I'm looking in to UTA FNP program online. Have you started the NP Program? Any recommendations?

Hello,

I opted to go to WestCoast university for my FNP. In the program now looking forward to graduating 08/2023

Congratulations and good luck to you!

It’s fine if your OK with teaching yourself and finding/paying for your own preceptor

Thank you for feedback! I applied and waiting to hear back! Would you call me or text to chat some more about the program? 818-808-7203! Thanks so much

I got accepted into the program and start on 8/22 but not feel discouraged with the reviews I have seen. Anyone that is in the program would you recommend? I don’t mind having to teach myself and the online work since that is how I pretty much learn.
