I'm interested in applying here to do their BSN program. And thoughts about this program? I'm looking to complete my BSN as accelerated as possible. Is this a good program?

I applied on November 1st. Sent my transcripts in right away following the rep's instructions. I had 4 schools to send out and to expedite the process I requested 1 transcript to be sent electronically and the others via usps mail. 2 1/2 wks later, my rep called me to tell me my file was incomplete. Upon some investigation with the admissions office, it turned out I had been given the wrong email address for the electronic transcript. I called back the orig. rep and she insisted that I had been given the email they always give out. Admissions said I had been misinformed. After much wasted time on the phone trying to sort this out, I was given a new email address and had to call my school to have them resend the transcript. In the meantime, I have called and left mssgs for my rep, as well as emails, and I have yet to hear back from her. We are going on 3 1/2 wks and she has not had the decency to get back to me. The clock is ticking. I'd like to start in January, but I think that if they have no regard for their prospective students, how will they be once they have you in their claws?
The program is cheap. Now I know why.

Is this an online program?
I was referring to my experience for the online RN to BSN program. I believe they do have traditional BSN curriculum.

Hi pandorasbox,
i know what you mean. my introduction to uta wasn't the best either, but not nearly as bad as you describe. i'm not going to bore you with the details. my impression is that the administrative people and the advisors are inefficient, slow, not well-versed in their duties, and maybe don't really care. i don't know. i'm not sure if any other school would be much better. For me, once i got all my problems sorted out (and, yes, I did have to expend a lot of time and energy to make it happen), it would have been too late to explore and get into another program. so, i just dove in. plus, once you are in, you don't really have to deal w/ any of these folks anymore, or at least very little.
if you do decide to join us, let me know and i'll be happy to provide you w/ any help that i can. I started in Aug so i've been through 6 classes.

I didn't find out I was accepted until one week before classes started and I had like 2 days to get registered. I was very stressed and mad that they didn't give me much time. Like someone else said though, after you start the program you don't have to deal with them anymore.
Did you guys have to do a lot of extra coursework? I think we have to do US/TX history? I'm trying to just do my BSN without all the extra fluff. I have applied to other programs and they start on Jan 7. That is the reason that I'd like to find out about UTA so I can finalize my plans.
Can you tell me how UTA's classes are? Are there group projects, classes that require outside work...meaning having a preceptor, etc? How much writing do you have to do? Is it doable?
I appreciate any info u can provide.
And another important point: are there hidden fees????
Hi Pandorasbox,
unless you are from texas and have taken texas gov before, you must take it in order to get your BSN. it's a state law. If you have a previous degree, you probably won't have to take many of the other general classes. If not, you will, but you would even if you go to another school. i had to take texas, us gov and one history only. not too bad considering. you can knock these out fairly easily and move onto nursing. i certainly understand your situation and i know you want to make plans.
There is a group project in at least one nursing class from what i have read here, but i haven't had any so far. no preceptors required. all tests are on-line. yes, there are papers in every class, but i don't think you will avoid this anywhere you go. if you peruse allnurses a little more, you will find many posts regarding individual classes that may give you some more info.
good luck and if you do start, check back here for more help along the way.
hidden fees? just tuition plus books. can't think of anything else
Thanks ScarletFire for the info. I have applied at other schools and I'm eliminating the ones that are not compatible with me. I would definitely love to hear what UTA has to say, but they are being very quiet, lol! Since I already know I would have to take TX and US history, how long are the classes, and how are they composed? Are there papers? How are exams handled?
Thank you!

I took Texas the previous 8-week session & a few minutes ago i finished my final exam for US gov. I haven't taken US history yet, but i only need part II, not part I.
The gen ed classes are 8 weeks long, as opposed to 5 weeks for nursing. Texas had on-line lectures, as well as readings from a textbook. There were 4 exams, 1 power point project, 1 paper, and of course the requisite posts on the discussion board. The best thing was that you could work ahead, which means you can take the tests whenever you want. I was able to finish up in just 4 weeks. Some classes don't allow you to work ahead and you therefore must comply w/ set days and times when tests are "open." So, you have to arrange your work and life schedule accordingly. Exams are timed; clock starts ticking once you press the "begin" button. Pretty straight forward. You see your score immediately upon finishing and can see the ones you missed. You are required to respond to a question or topic on a discussion board throughout the course, which everyone in your class can read by a specific date and then you must post a reply to at least 2 of our classmates also by a specific date.
If you decide to join us, let me know and I'll be happy to PM you with more details in Jan if you like. I'll check in here during the next few weeks to see if you have any other questions.
Thank you very much ScarletFire. I wish my UTA rep would be as helpful as you are.
You're welcome. I just know what it feels like to be you right now.
don't hesitate to contact me should you require anything further and for sure do so if you decide to join us. I'm a few classes ahead of you, so I can provide a lot of info that may be useful to you.
in the meantime, stay strong and be persistent. remember,
