UTA AP BSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Dear fellow students,

I will be starting the 15 month AP BSN program through UTA this Fall, and I would like to know what to expect the first semester of nursing school. I know it will be tough, that's a given! I think Pharmacology was a test run for the real deal. But still, I want to know from previous students especially Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 nursing students on how their schedule works. How each semester is laid out, and if you guys get any break in between each semester. And how are your clinicals? Is it two days, on weekends, or do you get to pick and choose which days? Basically a regular day of a nursing student? Thanks!

Congrats on your acceptance! Unfortunately, I don't have the answers to your questions; however, I do recall a thread on this site that requested the same info as you are. Do a search of "UTA" and you should have some success! Good luck!

Hi there! I'll be starting in the fall, too so I'd like to hear anyone's feedback as well :)

Hi,

I am apart of the fall 2010 cohort 3. It depends on your hospital location and clinical rotation that determines what days your clinical will be. My clinicals all fell on the weekend for Foundations, Medsurge, Critical Care, and OB. But Peds, Pysch, and Community were doing the weekdays. You will get breaks from clinicals throughout the 15 months. Clinicals are short with the exception of 1st semester. 1st semester is by far the hardest semester. Clinicals are two days long 10-12 hours a day. Community is 8 hour days two days a week. If you did good in Pharmacology (at least a B) you should do fine first semester. Expect to say bye bye to your family and friends for 3 months. Once you get pass 1st semester it is smooth sailing.

I'm curious if some of you can tell me a little about the pharmacology class???!! I'm enrolled to start at the end of the month and trying to figure out how the class is structured and what your thoughts were??!! Thanks!! Feel free to PM me if you want.

tejas 03 how did you do in pharmacology or anyone else who took it online at UTA for AP program

@nikkibro...I am in pharm now and it's going ok...it is a tough class just because of the amount of information to read/process/retain and turn around every 2 weeks for a test. When you are taking it? I have a high B now after two tests and praying for an A?!! :-/

@tejas03 probably won't be @ pharm until the summer @ earliest

I need algebra to get to chem

And chem to get to pharm

I am a non-science person (undergrad & graduate) REALLY

Making a career change

@Nikkibro...I would look around for other places to take Chem...I've heard a lot of ppl say that UTA's chem class online was the hardest/worst class they have taken through UTA. I didn't thankfully have

to retake it (took it 10yrs ago) or I.would have taken it somewhere else. Just thought this info might be helpful!! ;) Best of luck!!

@tejas03 thanks very much for the words about chem

I have been plotting mentally for the last week

Including a plan B school thanks to the discussions here on the boards LOL

Thank you and good luck with the rest of the semester

another poster on allnurses suggested ocean City College's Chem -- does anyone have experience with this online school?

Or experience taking Chem online that would be easier than uta's online offering?

Thanks

Take chem anywhere other than online at UTA. That class almost killed me!! Probably 70% of my class dropped out but I foolishly stuck it out. I made my first C and it brought my science GPA down to a 3.5, but I was never so happy to have had a C in my life, because it meant that I didn't have to do it again!

The prof is horrible. You get zero support. Test questions are one at a time with no option to go back and review your answer, nor do you ever get to see your graded test or the correct answer. Labs are 15 pages, due every two weeks.

Just my two cents, but I would rather get a root canal than go through that again!!
