UT Tyler nursing spring

Published

Am applying to UT tyler nursing program for spring 2015. Anyone else applying? Feel free to post comments.

Well let's talk about getting accepted. Lol anyone nervous?

LoyalWeim,

I believe what they look for is for you to get the minimum score they require in math and the Reading section. They don't necessarily have to go by point system to know your grades are better than another applicant. I personally went to the school and she told me they do not go by point based system. She said that is used for the traditional program. For that reason, you will not find the point based system calculation procedure on the Accelerated Nursing website.

zilamakus,

I did read your post carefully and I am simply asking, why require us to even take the TEAS exam (of course, yes for the accelerated- that is what I too am referring to) if it is not even factored into overall scoring? Why did my advisor add up and tally my overall score? And if they do not score in some way then what do you think they evaluate according to? Did you ask the advisor that since they do not go by a scoring system, then what do they base their assessment and selection criteria?

I am asking this because I am geniunely confused! And this is pretty critical information if you are correct...

LW

LoyalWeim,

I find your comparison a little bit problematic. This is because with the traditional program, the four years include all their prerequisite classes. They use the first two years for the prerequisites and the last two years for the nursing classes. With the Accelerated, the number of months one will use for the prerequisites depend on the individual. Some use 12 months for the prerequisites. Others may go beyond that depending on the schedule.

acboykin2306,

I suppose if you are comparing an ADN to the Accelerated BSN, then yes the difference is 4 months. But a better comparison would be to compare the Traditional 4-year BSN to the Accelerated BSN degree in which case the difference is 28 months, not 4 months.

UTMB no longer offers Accelerated program. However, their traditional program is now 16 months which sounds great. I have got admission at UTMB and will start in January, 2015 and the program ends in April, 2016. Though I am still waiting for Tyler to make a better decision.

A better comparison would be to compare Tyler's 20 month "accelerated" BSN to other Texas school's accelerated BSNs (TTU: 12 months, TAMU: 15 months, UTHSCSA: 15 months, UTMB: 12 months, UHV: 12 months, etc.)

I'm applying to the ABSN and I'm so confused! I came from other country and my current college gave me credit for a/p 2 and growth and development. I don't have a score only credit, so I don't have idea how are they going to do the point system. Mrs Tammie seems very confused when she saw that. I'm waiting for my rejection or acceptance. I wish I would apply to other program besides Ut Tyler, but I believe all deadlines are due in most programs in Texas.

I'm super nervous.

Me too! I don't want to apply anywhere else

Have you done a course by course evaluation of your transcript by one of those evaluation bodies like WES? I think they will be in a position to give you a course grade

zilamakus,

I agree... which is why my following post to the one to which you quoted said, "It is probably important to consider the pre-requisite requirements prior to acceptance."

"I believe what they look for is for you to get the minimum score they require in math and the Reading section. And what I am telling you is that they used to have a scorecard that included GPA, degrees held, TEAS, etc... used to calculate an overall score. And as I said, it seems that they very recently removed information from the website. It appears that the scoredcard has been removed. I too met with the advisor personally 4 times this last summer with the most recent being about 6 weeks ago. She calculated my overall score for the Accelerated BSN program. It is possible that this just changed literally within the last few weeks. Included in that calculation was extra points for degrees already held which used to be required, but isn't as of this year. So... I am not saying that you are wrong- necessarily. I was told one thing and you were told another. I am guessing that UT Tyler has recently changed their admission criteria but nobody that had already submitted their application has been notified. I would simply ask the advisor myself, but I know that she is very busy at the moment with these applications and the due date has passed already anyway.

My best guess is that while they do not require a degree now for the ABSN program, it probably helps a little. Minimum TEAS scores are not required, but higher scores probably helps. There may not be any minimum GPA requirements, but higher GPA probably helps. So even if they do not officially use a scorecard system anymore, they probably still use the combined total of an applicants qualifications/scores to decide candidate selection.

Regardless.... as others have expressed... all that we can do now is wait.

Good luck everyone!

LW
