UT Southwestern Winter 2016 Residency

Published

Hi all! I have been searching for a board for UTSW Winter 2016 Residency and have not found one so hopefully I'm not duplicating the topic. Has anyone applied and heard about interviews? I applied but I don't have any idea of when interviews will take place. I plan to investigate with HR tomorrow but thought I'd ask here as well.

I currently work at UTSW they started contacting people last week and I was scheduled to interview for this Wednesday, but I declined the offer since I have accepted an offer somewhere else. I recommend communicating with HR however and doing your best to get yourself noticed! They are holding interviews this week and next week from what I have heard, but it doesn't hurt to put yourself out there. Goodluck!

Thank you so much! I guess I better jump on it quick because I am out of town right now. I did hear from them a week or so ago asking what unit I was interested in since I was not specific enough and just listed Women's Services..but that was the last I heard. Anyways, thanks for the help! I will call tomorrow.

Awesome! The hospital is great and I would have definitely stayed if it weren't for me believing pediatrics is my calling. They tend to be one of the leading organizations salary wise on graduate nurse pay for the DFW area, wish you the best of luck!

I have heard the same thing from a friend who also works at UTSW. Thank you so much! Now I'm starting to wonder if they just offer internal candidates interviews because she worked there prior to getting a nurse job there as well.

Not necessarily, although it helps sometimes it doesn't always guarantee a job. They extended their deadline for applications 2 week even though alot of internal candidates applied before the original Sept. 16th deadline. I have 3 friends who applied for the critical care internship and currently work on the med-surg units none have heard back yet. However, I have another friend that works for Parkland and is scheduled to interview this week. That fact that they have contacted you already is a good sign!

Oh wow Sept. 16th? Or Oct. 16th? When I applied it was due Oct. 16th. Hmm I will definitely try to contact someone at UTSW because I would hate to miss the interviews this week or next. I am thinking I will apply to Parkland as well being that I have already been rejected from the program you're going to be in. I started with 3 applications but now that I'm down to 2 it is getting scary! I have heard of other people on these boards applying to 10+ positions so I think it's time for me to take the extra step of getting in contact with some actual humans!

I got that same phone call! Maybe they just aren't interviewing for women's services yet! I hope we hear something soon!

Oops yeah I was thinking of another applications I did! Their deadline was originally Sept. 25th but they extended it 2 more weeks because they received about 100 applications or so for all the internships combined and they wanted more.

It may definitely help to apply to maybe 2-3 more places and for sure consider Parkland since they barely opened theirs last month and haven't held any interviews yet so they may be a good choice. For me I applied to 5 hospitals and was fortunate enough to be called, interviewed, and offered a position by my first choice and I just declined 2 interviews this week. It may have been bad that I accepted before doing any other interview, but it's all I ever wanted and hopefully it works out for the best. I'm focused now on trying the pass my NCLEX on my 1st try!

Yes they are definitely going by units! All I know is that they have contacted ER and Critical Care candidates for interviews. But good luck guys I hope all turns out well it goes a long way with HR if you are persistent, it tells them that you are truly interested and in their eyes it's worth to give you a try :)

You will do great on the NCLEX! Having the stress of finding a job off your shoulders will be a great help! And I think you did the right thing. I definitely would have accepted if I got an offer too!

Hello everyone! I just got a call from UT Southwestern to set up an interview. I originally applied to the women's services track but was told for whatever reason that they are not doing that anymore. I don't know if he meant that all the spots were filled or if they are getting rid of the track all together. He gave me the option of med surg, oncology, or OR. I chose med surg and set up a time next week to interview with them. I am excited and nervous and hopefully all goes well. I am a little bummed that they are not doing L&D but would love to work with them on a med surg unit!
