UT Houston Fall 2019 PMHNP

Updated:   Published

Has anyone been given admission into the PMHNP program at University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston? I am starting this thread so that we can share information.

Yes, I also got my acceptance email yesterday.

Hi All- I applied to the post masters PMHNP program in early January. I have heard absolutely nothing - no updates and my portal says "under review" forever. I reached out to the program coordinator in April and she never responded to my email (I went on a webinar and she had said decisions would be made in April). After a few calls to the school I finally got hold of someone who told me "they will let me know some time in July." At this point, I have started to have serious doubts about the quality of this school and wondering if this program is gonna be properly run- they clearly are super inefficient or having issues with their admissions. It is over 6 months since I applied. I applied to another Texas program and have been accepted, but it is quite a bit more expensive- but very well run and a good reputation (UT Arlington). Their application process was a month turnaround.

What have your impressions been so far or any advice? I'm concerned that if they are this unresponsive now, that the program itself will be a mess.

I need to let the other program know soon- they even have an orientation date. I don't live in Houston so I don't know if this program has a good reputation or not- I just assumed that being in the Medical Center it would be awesome.

Appreciate your advice, and any reassurances that this would be a good program- admissions departments are not always a reflection of the clinical side of the school.

Oltem, have you began the process of registering for classes? I haven't yet received the "official acceptance letter" with information on orientation, classes, etc.

Fursan,

I have not registered for classes as I still have some holds that I need to clear. New graduate students orientation is August 15 8am to 4pm

When did you receive information on holds and orientation?

Congrats to you all! Do you know if they conduct interviews for the BSN to MSN PMHNP program? I applied for Spring 2020.

Okay great! With your experience, when did they notify of interviews after the application deadline? Was notification of interview made by e-mail?

i just got a call for the interview today, I suppose to start spring 2020 as well. But I don't know what they ask at the interview.

Nursesmagar,

Don't be anxious about the interview, it is usually laid back. All the best

Hi! I recently applied to the PMHNP program for Summer 2020. You are the second person who has had has issues with the application process.

I was wanting to follow up with you to see if you ever heard from them or if you decided to pursue a different school.

Hello- I did finally hear from them in November - almost a year after I applied- inviting me to interview in Houston. It has all been a horrible experience start to end- keep in mind this is the post masters psychiatric np certificate program- they have other programs there too. I finally went down to interview and the school itself is beautiful and new- but I'm not a fit and have been very put off by the application experience. I'm happily in an MBA program. If I do go back for a psyche NP- it will be through a DNP program. Feel free to message me if you like. All the best.
