Has anyone been given admission into the PMHNP program at University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston? I am starting this thread so that we can share information.
Hi All- I applied to the post masters PMHNP program in early January. I have heard absolutely nothing - no updates and my portal says "under review" forever. I reached out to the program coordinator in April and she never responded to my email (I went on a webinar and she had said decisions would be made in April). After a few calls to the school I finally got hold of someone who told me "they will let me know some time in July." At this point, I have started to have serious doubts about the quality of this school and wondering if this program is gonna be properly run- they clearly are super inefficient or having issues with their admissions. It is over 6 months since I applied. I applied to another Texas program and have been accepted, but it is quite a bit more expensive- but very well run and a good reputation (UT Arlington). Their application process was a month turnaround.
What have your impressions been so far or any advice? I'm concerned that if they are this unresponsive now, that the program itself will be a mess.
I need to let the other program know soon- they even have an orientation date. I don't live in Houston so I don't know if this program has a good reputation or not- I just assumed that being in the Medical Center it would be awesome.
Appreciate your advice, and any reassurances that this would be a good program- admissions departments are not always a reflection of the clinical side of the school.

i just got a call for the interview today, I suppose to start spring 2020 as well. But I don't know what they ask at the interview.

Hi! I recently applied to the PMHNP program for Summer 2020. You are the second person who has had has issues with the application process.
I was wanting to follow up with you to see if you ever heard from them or if you decided to pursue a different school.

Hello- I did finally hear from them in November - almost a year after I applied- inviting me to interview in Houston. It has all been a horrible experience start to end- keep in mind this is the post masters psychiatric np certificate program- they have other programs there too. I finally went down to interview and the school itself is beautiful and new- but I'm not a fit and have been very put off by the application experience. I'm happily in an MBA program. If I do go back for a psyche NP- it will be through a DNP program. Feel free to message me if you like. All the best.
