I just got accepted into UT's Alternate Entry MSN Program for Child Health. Just wanted to see if anyone else is in the class starting Summer 2009!
hey all!
I had a question for you guys. Have you read the threads/heard around about how many do not think AE MSN grads will be looked down upon in the nursing field? I have read that (not about UT's program in particular but about all Accel. MSN programs) and was wondering your thoughts on it as opposed to going back and getting a BSN then taking time off before going to get your MSN.
Just wanted toget future class mate's opinions!

Sorry, I realize that it didn't make sense now that I re-read it ;-)
I guess my question is: are you concerned about not getting your BSN? I have heard through the grapevine (nurse talk/this forum) that people who do accelerated masters are sometimes snubbed when entering the working world because they think we get less clinical experience and don't "deserve" the masters.... I have heard that and wondered if it bothered either of you. I feel like an additional Bachelors isn't necessary and if I am qualified enough to go straight to my masters, I should deserve the same respect, but you know how funny people can be about that... I just wanted to get ya'lls opinion :-)
Haha! The same thing happened to me yesterday-my mom read me my letter over the phone since it went to my permanent address. :) I was wondering about a deposit as well, but it seems that we just have to fill out the forms and send them in, right? So, have you decided for sure that you are coming to UT? :)

Yeah, I think it looks like we have to get those forms and we should be good to go is what I was thinking. There are the few online things we need to go through (privacy training and the clinical online trainings) but other than that, it looks pretty self explanatory... I plan on getting it started in March. I am thinking maybe the deposit goes to the Graduate School general office instead of the Nursing school? The letter does say something about hearing officially in a letter packet from the GIAC too.
They give us a LONG time to decide. Duke only gave me 3 weeks and Columbia only about 3-4 weeks as well. 2 months seems like such a long time!
and yeah, I'm headed to UT if you couldn't already tell haha :-) Go Longhorns!
So we have until April 15th to give them our answer and I do not think that we have to give any money for a deposit (that I am aware of). I do not know about tuition but I am assuming it will be graduate tuition since we will be graduate students. Good luck with applying :) Let me know if you have any more questions about the application process

I am about 95% sure that we pay graduate tuition for all 3 years - I don't think it makes sense otherwise.
Are you guys confused about not putting in a deposit? Every where else I got in, it was in the letter in BOLD how much we owed and by when. Neither letter (from the nursing school nor the GIAC) seemed to indicate that we had either.
Have either of you sent in the letter to say that you would be going yet?
I am definitely confused about the deposit as well and am probably going to call the nursing school soon just to check and make sure. I faxed the Nursing school my form a couple days ago letting them know that I would be accepting their offer. I am now working on all of the "compliance" stuff, such as CPR certification, immunization records etc.
The compliance doesn't seem too bad... I got my TB test today and ordered my immunization records from back home in Boston... seems relatively easy. Could you let us know what the Nursing school says about the deposit? I'm currently in a war with the A&R people about tuition... definitely not the best. I was going to ask them, but was so frustrated with dealing with them that I forgot to ask about that by the time our conversation was "done". I use "done" because they were completely unhelpful. ugh.
