USTH Freeze Hiring - A Challenge

Good day! Im a UST graduate just this year. I know that USTH is not hiring nurses at present, but I cant help but wonder if they would be able to make exceptions? Someone told me that hospitals make exceptions for distinct nurses. But Im really afraid to submit my resume to their HRD since the board near their office is filled with "FREEZE HIRING FOR NURSES" signs. Would they still accept my resume eventhough it is made very clear that they are not hiring at present? I do not expect them to hire me at present, but I am just hoping that they would consider hiring me when there is a vacancy. How do I go about this? How do I tell the lady/gentleman at the HRD that I do understand what freeze hiring means and yet here is my resume and requirements?

Also, does anyone know the requirements when applying at UST?

What about the procedure? Test1 test2 interview...?

What questions do they usually ask in their interviews? clinical/personal?

Thank you :redbeathe

I think it would be best for you to ask that to the HRD. They will be able to give you concrete answers especially regarding your plans for the position. They will also tell you the requirements but be aware also that it takes a whole lot of time for them to process your application if ever. Talk about several months, even close to a year - and this was when they were still not on freeze hiring.

Hi!

If they are not currently hiring, I suggest that you don't give them your resume just yet. After all they've clearly stated that they have "freeze hiring for nurses". Aside from the fact that the HR might be annoyed, your resume might get lost at this time.

Since you mentioned "distinct" nurse, do you possess any special skills, achivements, or recognitions that you think will be a plus to your application? I have a friend who is a magna cum laude of UST who applied at USTH after passing the boards last year. And guess what, until now the application is still pending (--he's not yet for training though he finished the exams and interview already early this year).

The only exception I know in USTH with regard to hiring is that you have to have a "backer" if you want to be hired fast. The RN daughter of a prominent surgeon in that hospital was hired in just a couple of months after applying whereas "common" people who applied before her are still waiting.

Why don't you try applying in hospitals which are currently hiring? Examples of such hospitals as far as I know are V. Luna, Medical City, St. Lukes-Global City.. Also try searching this site for more information or call the other hospitals where you're interested to work and ask them about their hiring status for RNs.

I also applied at USTH last year(2007!:zzzzz:zzzzz:zzzzz) and it was in their website that they were currently hiring at that time. The requirements (initial) were in their website too. It includes cover letter, resume, tor, prc ID, prc rating, prc certificate of passing.. I can't remember the rest but I'm sure they'll post it again when they resume hiring.:D

During my time, the process was like this:

1st exam - IQ, personality

HR interview

2nd exam - clinical

interview by the nursing service

By the way, after the 1st exam, you'll be given a list of requirements to complete before you'll be scheduled for an interview.

:offtopic:I strongly suggest that you apply in various hospitals (where you want to work, not just any hospital) because hiring at the moment for nurses is at a snail's pace and competition is very tough locally. This will give you a lot of options and opportunities career-wise. Also, try attending seminars and skills training while waiting for these hospitals because it's a plus. (PNA offers a lot of these post-graduate trainings/seminars.)

that is so sad...

chinese gen hires their grads first before they accept any applicants from other schools... i think the same goes for uerm.

is it true that the only person usth hired from june 2008 was the board topnotcher?

ooohhhh....

their own graduates can't get a job at their own hospital????? that is so sad...:(

They are giving priorities to their graduates; however, the waiting time is still so loooong!!!:down::down:

Wow so fast! Thank you for your replies and advice. Has anyone tried to submit their resume while USTH is still on "freeze hiring" status? Yes, Iv heard that they hired the topnotcher, and that means that they hired that person in spite of the "freeze hiring" status. I was hoping that theyd make that kind of exception for me...

jp_db07 : Thank you for the suggestions. Yes that is the reason why I am afraid to submit my resume to the HR. I have the feeling that theyd just think that I cannot read the sign or lose my papers. The reason why I wanted to apply in USTH is that they allow fresh graduates to work in special areas instead of working first in the regular wards. You mentioned that after the first exam, theyd give me a list of requirements. What kind of requirements are those?

If they hired one person from June only, it means that they contacted them directly. But it can only be a rumor as well about them getting hired since the most do not have licenses yet that tested then and this is a requirement before one is able to begin work.

If they have posted that they are not accepting any applications, this is what is means. They are not accepting any. If you do drop one off, they are not under any requirement to hold onto it or do anything with it. Suspect that it will be lost or thrown out with the trash.

Hi! I guess what you've heard is just a rumor. The board topnotcher was hired indeed by UST, but not at the USTHospital (because of the "freeze hiring" status). The topnotcher was hired by the UST College of Nursing, I think even before the board results were out because I've heard she's an honor student and a really good one. She's an "assistant" to one of the professors there. Maybe she's take up MAN already.:nuke:

hi ... im also a grad of june 2008 from UST ... i believe

... that you need a backer... in terms of ... trying to get in and passing your application to the HR dept of USTH ...

but it doesnt hurt to try and call them up or visit them personally...

anyway good luck :D

and btw .. from what i understand... USTH are now training the board topnotchers (most of them) that wished to ... apply in UST....
