Hey I got accepted into the program! I start this fall In the ABSN program! Can’t wait to meet you guys

Would you be interested in sharing how you like the program so far?? Its so new so I know a lot of people are curious about how it is going and if the price is worth it! if not, totally understand.

Hello,

I am interested in applying for the ABSN program at St Thomas. I am about to graduate college and have made it pretty far in the hiring process with the Houston Fire Department. How often are UST ABSN students expected to be in class a week for labs? It is my understanding that the work is all online besides the clinicals and labs. Maybe I am crazy, but I feel that with all the time I have off I could do both. Is the school very flexible with when you attend clinicals and labs?

For the fire department I would work 24 hours on, 24 off, 24 on, and 120 hours off.

Hello Nathan,

Congratulations for your decision of pursing nursing career. Program is very rigerous as it should be for any ABSN program of this nature. Clinical posting would be any day, any time as per hospital's need or availibility. When you would be working 2 straight days in 24 hr shift, how do you plan on attending zoom meetings or online labs or any other activities? School has strict policy about not being able to attend zoom or labs while on job as it indicates poor integrity (Kind of stealing from employer while studying for yourself). That said, If you have ability work our PM or night shifts, I think you can make it work. But question would, when would you work, do assignemnt, study?? By no means it is an easy task.

All the best with what you decide. Thank you for your services in Armed Forces.

I do not know how to do a direct reply, but thank you for that information. While I would have plenty of time off, I feel that the schedule would not be flexible enough to make it to mandatory labs as you said. Clinical days maybe something that I could work out with the hospital but we all know how that goes. When it comes to the labs or zoom meetings though for that 24-hour shift I would not be able to participate which would never work. I may have to look into instead since I have heard it is a little more flexible and more spread out. 12 months is a very short period of time for that much coursework. Even WGU would be a stretch but is much more realistic than this program it seems. Thanks again!

Hi everyone! It looks like there isn't any thread for Spring 2021 so I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions here. I applied for the Spring 2021 ABSN cohort and am still waiting to hear back regarding decisions, but this morning I received an email about a Pre-ABSN Information Session that is planned for tomorrow (so last minute!). Did anyone else in the same boat receive this?
