We do not use xylocaine for females (most of patients do not have sensation) if a male has sensation we'll use urojet and inject the xylocaine just before the scope. I am trying to visulize getting the xylocaine to go into the female urethra seems it would just stay on the outside. Have you tried using it on a female?

I had cystoscopy last month. Nurse put a swab (Q-tip type thing) with xylocaine jelly in the urethra before starting the procedure.
Thank GOD I had sedation - I don't know about your patients, disher, but *I* sure did still have sensation! Ow ow OW OW OW. I didn't enjoy it one little bit

I can only speak of my experience with this as the patient. I read up on the procedure first, and in my nursing books it said the pt is pre medicated with Valium. NOT!!! All they did for me was the xylocaine jelly. It still hurt, and I felt like I was peeing razorblades and battery acid afterwards!!!
