Not asking for medical advice here, just wondering how many of you OB nurses or moms have seen problems with perineum long after birth.
I gave birth a year and a half ago, with a 4th degree tear (thru the rectal capsule) and using the restroom is still an ordeal. There was no time for an episiotomy in my case. Anyone else know of long term probs after an episiotomy or tear?

I tore really bad with my son and it was an ordeal for about 6 months or so. I
also gave birth 18 months ago with another episiotomy, but a much smaller one and I am completely healed. I think 18 months of discomfort warrants medical attention - that's just my mom-to-mom opinion.

I developed a rectocele and had it repaired after my last child was born.
I've since had a uterine prolapse due to the broad ligaments tearing and have developed a cystocele.
So much for having "big hips" and a doctor who strongly felt I should deliver lady partslly.
Sounds like you have a lot of scar tissue. Have you had your gynie or GP look at it? Mine were very supportive in making sure I had the corrective surgeries I needed.

I would just like to say that when (if) you get evaluated for treatment, and you choose to get a second opinion, remember that GYN is not the only specialy that performs procedures for this type of problem. You may wish to check into a colo-rectal surgeon, or a urologist that specializes in anterior and posterior (recocele and cystocele) repairs.
Good luck!

Mom-to-mom advise, go see your doctor. You should not have to put up with that kind of discomfort for that long. Good luck

There are quite a lot of studies and written reports on this sort of injury. Some that I found on a PubMed search (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed) include the following which may be of interest:

I gave birth for the first time one year ago and now Im about to have a lady partsl posterior repair and am very scared!! I had a traumatic rotation forcep delivery and the damage occured then and there, and some more! even my stitches gave way during the first week post birth! Ive been told that i will have to have c-sections from now on if i have this surgery. the reason i choose to have it now instead of after finishing my family is that im so young and it will hopefully improve me physically and emotionally? anyone been in a similiar situation? I am scared to go ahead with this surgery but at the same time very tempted.
